The Rest of the Story

Well, Milo now had a new regime.  We had to change his bandage twice a day, give him his antibiotic every 6 hours and thoroughly brush his teeth (we now had better access!).  He was not too happy with his new routine, but as always he endured.

We found out that they could take off his mouth appliance on Thursday February 25 (today) at 4pm.  WOW!  That might not mean much to you but that meant A LOT to Milo because he couldn’t eat!  Poor kid.  We let him have his last morsel of food last night at 8pm (peppermint patties….) and then assured him he would not die of hunger before his procedure was over.

He endured pretty well throughout the day.  He basically sat in front of the computer screen and played games till Scott got home to take him to the hospital.  He had a few breakdowns due to his hunger but once again, he showed maturity beyond his years and endured with no food for the whole day (fasting should be easy for this kid!!).

Milo and Scott left at 1:45 pm for the hospital.  They arrived in due time and Milo went in like a champ and came out like a champ.  The doctor said he was free now to eat what he liked when he liked.  Just be careful because ALL four front teeth are VERY loose (man, that’s gonna break the Tooth Fairy’s bank!).   Milo was so happy to hear that.

Scott said that while they were walking to the parking lot Milo said ‘I can smell the hamburgers already!’  That’s all Milo really wants, hamburgers, pizza, chips and granola bars.  He’s all done with liquids and soft foods for a while!

Milo is now hardware free.  We still need to be a little careful.  Things are still healing in there.  He’s mostly healed.  He’ll be even more healed at the 3 month mark and all the way healed at the 6 month mark.  So we are happy to see our son full on with no hardware.  Can’t wait to change his bandage in the morning so I can see all of him with no obstruction.

The plastic surgeon wants to see Milo early next week.  He might want to fix his left side.  It has the potential of leaving a pretty gnarly scar.   We are also seeing the dentist next week to finish cleaning his teeth and we are seeing the eye doctor the week after that.  So we have 3 appointments scheduled in 7 days.  Whew, I thought things would start to slow down….  :o)

Waiting his turn for the O.R.

Walking in all by himself. That kid is tough, seriously!

All done, but still sleeping.

There's a smile!
