[One day I was going to make ham and egg burritos. Scott decided they should be green. The kids thought that was great. What an awesome dad he is!!]
Some fun/interesting things that happened during the first few weeks of April:
-Ever wonder if green banana’s ever turn yellow and then actually taste good? Well I’m here to tell you YES. We had the fortunate experience of doing this very experiment this last month. Sometime around the 18 of March, I went to Costco. They have the cheapest banana’s anywhere. They were green, but they always are. So I bought three big bunches. After a week I got a little discouraged that they would never turn. After week two I tried the paper bag method. After week three one whole bunch had turned yellow and tasted good. At the beginning of this week the second bunch was nice and yellow. The third bunch is on it’s way and we should be eating that bunch by the beginning of next week. Scott thought I should give up on them. But dangit, I spent money on those things and if there was any chance of them ripening and us eating them, I was going to do it. My patience has paid off and we are eating the rewards.
[Every boy needs a “fixing” project. Milo decided to “fix” our old blender. He didn’t quite fix it but had a great time trying. He will be my master fixer someday.]
-Have you ever seen the movie The Other Side of Heaven? I have. 7 years ago. When it came out in the movie theater, an older couple from our church, the Gaisford’s, offered to watch our kids so we could go on a date. I remembered enjoying the movie but haven’t seen it since. After conference on Sunday they were showing it on the BYU channel. I figured that would be a good Sunday movie to watch while Gayle and I got dinner ready (well mostly Gayle). Boy was that a mistake. Let’s see, because of that movie Jaime has now been given “the talk”. Alix wants to sleep on the floor with the windows open and Milo and Niah insist on sleeping with socks on their feet so that rats won’t eat the bottoms of them. *Sigh*
[Isn’t Keri just the cutest thing? We love her so much. What joy she brings to our lives.]
-Milo was looking through the children’s song book trying to read all the titles to the songs to see which one’s he knew. He read Little Purple Pansies after which Afton says “No, I have little purple panties.”
[Afton with her “ears”. She is too cute!!]
-Have you ever had an animal (an unwanted animal) die in the wall/ceiling of your home? Well, we have! Boy is it awful! It has died somewhere above Alix and Niah’s room. The stench is horrid. Especially on a hot day. At first we kinda hoped it would go away. It didn’t. Then we started searching for it. No good either. Then we asked around about what others have done. One person asked if we had a pest service. Yes we do. Then call them. Turns out they will take care of the problem from the beginning. Now, we knew we had a rat problem so we did all our usual things (I wrote a previous post about it) but nothing worked. So we resorted to poison. Apparently it worked, too good. We also found a dead one in the back yard. Actually Milo found it and it freaked him out. I’ve never seen that kid run screaming away from anything. Well, the pest guy could do nothing about the already dead one. He said just wait for a few hot days in a row and it will decompose and the smell will go away, LOVELY! But he did say he would come back and do things to help prevent it from happening again, yay!
-Afton is doing wonderful with potty training. I don’t think we’ve had an accident in 5 days. We are still working on the poo thing, but we had a break through the other night. She doesn’t want to push it out. She says it’s too stinky and icky. So I sat in the bathroom with her tonight and we talked about it and she went while we were talking. YAY. If you’ve ever potty trained a child, you’ll rejoice with me. If you’ve never potty trained a child, you probably think I’m crazy for even talking about this.
We own The Other Side of Heaven… too funny about all the repercussions about watching it!
Yucky on the dead thing living somewhere in your roof! I have some clothespins I could send to you… :-)
