Today was Milo’s 6th birthday. It’s hard to believe that six years ago today I was in the hospital giving birth to my sweet baby boy. Even more amazing is that he ended up being my only baby boy. I’m glad that he is part of this family. He keeps us laughing and reminds us each and every day the importance of humor in life. He was a good sized baby; 9 lbs 11 oz, 21.5 inches long and a 15 3/4 inch head. But I loved him instantly. I remember thinking that there was no way I could raise a boy. At times I still think that. But with the Lord’s help and the correct perspective, I hope to do well. I try to remind myself that I am raising a future priesthood holder that will one day serve a mission for his Heavenly Father and then marry in the temple and raise a righteous posterity. It’s a heavy load but one worth carrying since I do not have to carry it alone. The Lord will be right beside me as long as I rely on Him.
We started the day off with oatmeal and donuts. Sophie and Emi came over early and gave Milo his first birthday present.
We were low key the rest of the morning, doing chores here and there. I went to a baby shower. After I got home we really cracked down on chores. Jaime went to activity days, Scott ran some errands and we had a good day. At 5:30pm the Dalrymple’s came over for a carne asada dinner/birthday party. It was fun to have extra people to celebrate with. Milo was overjoyed to have Joseph come to celebrate with him. We had a wonderful dinner, yummy cake, ice cream, cup cakes (thanks Cindy) and cookies (Thanks Jaime). We opened gifts; light saber from mom, cd from dad, more dart bullets from the Dalrymple’s, six dollars from Grandma and Grandpa Thompson and cards from his sisters. He was excited about each and every gift.
He was so happy all day. He woke up this morning beaming. He even told Scott he needed to take a shower first thing so he could be clean for his birthday.
Milo was so excited about his birthday cake. He wanted a Bat Man themed cake with the logo and two figures. I managed to get one figure but thanks to Sophie and Emi he ended up with 3 figures. I stayed up till 1 am Friday night making and decorating his cake.
I wasn’t so sure how he was going to respond, but he LOVED it. Everyone did. I even impressed the neighbors and the Dalrymple’s. Really, as long as Milo was happy that was what was important and boy was he happy!
