CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Fill’n in the blanks

on February 12, 2009

Friday January 30 was spent cleaning and doing school and getting ready for dad to come home. We also decided to go to the park and let the kids run and let the mom socialize with some adults. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had a great time.

Saturday the 31st we spent the morning cleaning and then I went and picked up Scott while Roberta watched the kids for me. They made dad a welcome home sign while we were gone. After getting Scott from the airport and giving him a big hug and kiss we talked and enjoyed each other’s company in silence. We stopped by the store to pick up stuff we needed for dinner and made it home to some VERY happy kids. They couldn’t get enough of their daddy. It was super cute. ***Great story… Scott promised the kids something when he got home. He spent the week trying to figure out what to bring them that would be unique to Georgia. On Friday a co-worker said she had some left over shirts from the last picnic and that he could take some home. They were not able to meet back up before she left for the day so she said she’d send them on to California for him. So he planned on telling the kids that their surprise would have to wait till later, but that one was coming. Before he could say anything though, the kids started going through his suitcase. While Scott was in Georgia he bought some easy breakfast stuff so that the mornings would go faster. One thing he bought was instant oatmeal. He didn’t end up using all of it and brought the left overs home. The kids found the left over oatmeal packets and just squealed in delight ‘Oh daddy, did you bring us instant oatmeal? We LOVE this stuff.’ They all ate instant oatmeal right then and there and were the happiest kids on the planet! Easy to please, I like that!! After cleaning up a bit more we had dinner guests at 5 o’clock. We had 2 families from the ward. One family has lived in our ward about 6 months and the other family about 6 years. We hadn’t had either family over and so it was nice to visit with them and get to know them better. We had invited another couple over but they had to cancel because they moved! I was her visiting teacher and I really liked her. She was also a primary teacher. I’ll miss Jessica for sure!

Sunday February 1 all the sisters at church were asked to attend R.S. So the men took over the primary. It was fun to go to R.S. I think the kids enjoyed having the dads in primary. They were all giggles the whole time. After church we put kids down for naps and I started a leisurely afternoon of packing for our trip. We were going to be leaving for Utah in the morning and I thought I’d get some packing done while the little kids slept. I was doing quite well till we got an offer we couldn’t refuse….an invite to watch the Super Bowl. This really isn’t a normal activity for us. We don’t watch television on Sundays (or any other day for that matter!) but we got the invite from a very nice new family in our ward and so we decided to take them up on their offer. Sister Phillips is an awesome cook and we got to enjoy some of her homemade food. There was quite the spread and we enjoyed it very much. Jaime really enjoyed the football game and sat and watched the whole thing through. It was fun to watch her enjoy it so much. We got home and put all the kids to bed by 8pm. I finished packing and Scott and I were in bed by 10pm. Not too bad considering we watched the super bowl.

Monday February 2 came FAST! Too fast if you ask me! But after a shower and some cold air on the face, I was alert and attentive and out the door by 3:45 am. We made it all the way to Lovelock, NV before our first stop (about 8am). The kids got out and went to the bathroom and ran around a bit in the big lot next to the gas station. I got gas and fed Keri. We were back on the road within 45 minutes. We had a great trip and enjoyed the scenery and the car bags the kids brought and even enjoyed each other’s company. We stopped again in Wendover at about 1pm. We stayed there for about an hour and a half. So we got back on the road at 2:30, but oopps, it was actually 3:30pm now. O’well, there went my good time! We made it into Salt Lake by 5:30pm. I went straight to Camille’s brother’s house to pick up some snow gear so my kids could have some fun cold free. Unfortunately I got lost LOTS of times and didn’t get there till 6:30pm. That was ok though, the snow clothes were needed and it was the best time to do it. We made it to Mandi’s house in Syracuse by 8pm. The kids were all pretty tired so after some short hello’s I had the kids in bed by 9pm. Mandi and I went out to the store to pick up groceries for the next few days and enjoy some alone time. It is always so fun to see Mandi again after a long time. We have been friends for a long time and I am glad that has not changed. We got to bed about 1:30 am. I was pretty tired after all the traveling. My sleep was going well till about 5 am when Keri woke up and I went to get her but the door to the kids room was locked. I tried knocking on it to get them to wake up and open it. Nothing. Finally I had to go wake up Mandi to get a key. Of course there was no key, I just needed a long object. By the time I got to Keri, the little kids were all awake. So I took them downstairs and snoozed on the couch while they looked at books and played.
