For my faithful readers out there, I apologize for leaving you in the dark about our New Years and the first weeks of January. I have not been well and therefore somethings have taken a back seat, the blog for one!
For New Year’s eve we invited the Dalrymple family over. They are a wonderful family. We really enjoy their company and were honored that they accepted the invite to come spend the evening with us. The festivities started about 6pm with pizza and soda. We watched Nim’s Island and enjoyed that very much. As everyone was sitting around our living room I couldn’t help but think for a moment what it would be like to have 10 kids (the Dalrymple’s have 4 and they fall just old enough that all the kids could all be part of the same family aged 16-6months). Anyway, once I realized that would require me to be pregnant 4 more times I dismissed the idea…. :0) After the movie we made more snacks (mini corn dogs and taquitos). We ate 7 layer dip and drank more soda. Scott got out his blow gun and all the kids took a turn with that. We played a never ending Nerf gun game and enjoyed each other’s company. Around 10:30pm the kids put on another movie and the adults played a scripture trivia game. I don’t know as much as I thought I did about the scriptures. I’ll have to do more studying! At midnight we had lost Keri, Afton and Alix to slumber land. The rest of us went out and banged pots and pans and welcomed the new year. Fortunately for us, the Dalrymple’s were not done playing. We got to enjoy their company until 2:30am. All of our kids were asleep by then and so it didn’t really matter to us. We finally got to bed about 3 am and were expecting to sleep in a little the next morning.
January 1st came WAY too early. But I came down stairs with the kids and let them play while I went in and out of sleep on the couch. By 9 am Scott came down stairs and we all got dressed and ready to go. Hometown Buffet was having a special that we could get all the kids in for free. We met Li-Li and Sebastian there and had a great time eating and talking. We didn’t even realize it but we were there for 2 hours. We must have eaten at least enough food for an army! We came home and everyone napped. Then we cleaned the house and I made dinner. We were having the missionaries for dinner. I felt bad but we were still not hungry from our huge brunch and so we just sat and watched them eat. We got to bed on time and enjoyed a nice long night of sleep!
Monday January 5 I decided to start my New Year’s resolution to exercise. So while Alix was at her dance class, I walked with another mom around the block 3 times. It was a cold and overcast day but I was well pumped and very warm. However, as soon as we finished and the cold air hit my sweat I got VERY cold. I was so cold that I could not warm up the whole of the night. By the next day I was out. Roberta came over and was shocked to see me so sick. I assured her I would be fine. By afternoon the nausea set in and Roberta called Scott and drove to his work and picked him up. I was so ill I could not think or move or anything. It was awful. Scott stayed home from work on Wednesday and I stayed in bed all day. Thursday I was better enough for Scott to go to work but still very ill. I fought with this for the whole week. By Saturday morning I thought I was better and so Jaime and I walked to the church to attend the Mother/Daughter activity (about a 15 minute casual walk). By the time we got to the church I was so sick I thought I might pass out. Not a fun feeling. I got through the activity and we got a ride home from Cindy. I came home and had to go to bed and try to recover. I was pretty sick on Sunday too but tried hard to hide it. I slept most of Sunday too. Finally I emailed my doctor Sunday night before going to bed and asked what she thought and if she felt I should get some blood tests. She ordered a bunch of blood tests. Be it good or bad all the tests came out absolutely perfect. So here I am, still having issues. If I hadn’t just stopped my period I’d swear I was pregnant. Nausea, headache, body ache, overly tired and I can’t catch my breath. It’s mostly just annoying but I had a blessing that said I would recover. So I just need to continue to have faith and know that my Heavenly Father is aware of my sickness and he is watching out for me.
The mother/daughter activity with Jaime was super fun. We had a great time. It was all about serving a formal meal. The girls learned table setting and cooking and napkin folding. It was a lot of fun.
Our upstairs bathroom has been leaking. We informed the owner and he came to look at it with his “buddy” and proclaimed it fine. A few more months go by and Scott is out in the garage and realizes that the leak has now penetrated the ceiling of the garage and is leaking on his workbench and has damaged a lot of stuff. So we call the owner. He comes and says, ‘yep, there’s a leak’ and promises to come back with his “buddy”. Scott decides to turn off the water and remove the toilet which stops the leak. The owner and buddy show up two days later and say that the bathroom has to be replaced. Scott was given the job and has done a fabulous job so far. It is all torn out and the flooring seems to be drying out nicely. We shall see if he will have to replace the wood flooring that is the foundation of the second story (I’m sure there are more technical terms, I just don’t know what they are). It will be nice to have a new bathroom with no leaks.
Oh Sami, being so sick is not fun. I’m sorry you have been under the weather so long, and pretty good at hiding it you know.
GO Scott! That will be awesome to have a new bathroom. Give us a call on Saturdays if you need any help! I’m a great painter and Dave wields a mean drill!
