CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Slowing Down??

on November 29, 2008

Thursday, November 20, was another busy day. I left Jaime, Milo and Afton with my neighbor so that I could take Niah and Keri to have well checks. I took Alix with me so she could take a birthday present to Kyle. When we went to drop off the gift Laura offered for Alix to stay and play with Kyle and so I left her. Keri and Niah and I headed to the doctor. It took way to long. We had a 9:45 appointment and we didn’t leave the office till 11:15. We didn’t even do anything. Just a lot of waiting and waiting and waiting. But I really like my doctor and she had a student with her that day so each kid got two check ups. No biggie. I just felt bad for my babysitters. Laura decided she wanted to keep Alix for the rest of the day so I headed home. I got the other kids from Roberta and we went home and had lunch and naps and school. We had Toby and Logan over for our Thursday play date and things went well, till the end of the play date. Niah had a MAJOR meltdown. She was screaming and thrashing and just out of control. I put her in the car and buckled her in. She cried all the way to Toby’s house. I did not leave her due to her temper tantrum. I left Afton instead. She cried all the way to Jaime’s dance class (Laura dropped Alix off at her art class). She finally stopped crying when she realized we were going to sit in the car for a long time waiting for her to stop. As soon as she stopped we went in to watch Jaime’s dance class. She enjoyed Jaime’s dance class and was a happy camper the rest of the day. Poor girl. Not sure what started it, but I was glad when it was over.

Niah’s Stats:
39 pounds (79%)
3ft 9in (80%)
She has gone up in both weight and height. She may end up being tall after all!

Keri Stats:
17pounds 7oz (91%)
2ft 3in (95%)
She is slowly going down. All my kids do. They start out “big” and then even out. Except Afton, she has always been small and probably always will be.

Friday November 21 Scott went to an early morning dentist appointment. Then he took Niah to her birthday breakfast. I picked her up and, after we got home, did school and chores and then just stayed home. Usually we go to Friday park day, but I was just wiped out. Keri had been doing a lot of crying. The kids had been doing a lot of bickering and I was just spent. Instead we stayed home and got things cleaned up and I made a nice dinner. It felt good to just stay home. I was suppose to do my bread pick up but really just didn’t want to leave the house, so Scott went and picked it up for me. We got rid of most of it that night and the rest of it the next morning. I didn’t even have to take any and drop it off at people’s houses. That was too easy!!

Saturday November 22 was an early morning, well for Scott anyway! He had scheduled a fishing trip. He tried to take Jaime with him but couldn’t get her to wake up. That is a first for her. She has always been our lightest sleeper who needs the least amount of sleep. Not this time, she was gone! He didn’t catch but Bryon did. Scott said he had a great time. After they got back to the house Scott was showing Bryon his BB gun (Scott bought one to take to his parents house so the kids could have something to shoot in case the other guns were too much for them). Bryon was saying he was a pretty good shot back in the day but hadn’t shot for a long time. Scott cocked his gun and tried to hit a dandelion in the yard. He missed (barely, but he missed). Scott told Bryon to try, he hit it dead on. He cut it in half. Scott was more broken hearted about being out shot than not catching a fish. He spent the rest of the afternoon perfecting his shot. He did manage to help clean up the house and go with me to the recycling center. ***Story: My friend Erika is a 4th grade teacher. Since Jaime is in 4th grade this year she invited Jaime to go on this major field trip to Sacramento where they become pilgrims for the day. Anyway, the way the class is raising money is collecting recycling. So we have been collecting this stuff like mad. Usually I just wait till I’m going to see Erika and then I take it to her. This time there was more than usual and I wasn’t going to see Erika for a while. So I loaded the van and headed over to the recycling center with Niah. Thinking this would take about 20 minutes I thought I could take Niah to get her free birthday ice cream afterward. I got there and could instantly see I was not going to be able to do this on my own. I called Scott and he came to my rescue. 2 hours later, we walked away with $33. I haven’t decided if it was worth it or not. I’ve learned a lot about recycling though and will be better prepared if I ever decide to go again. Since my “fast” errand turned into an all afternoon project, we made sandwich’s for dinner and then went to bed. There wasn’t time for anything else!! Scott finished up his Sunday school lesson and I caught up on emails and journaling.

In the pictures you’ve been posting, I keep thinking Niah looks really tall. I guess she is!! Is the trip to Sacramento at the end of the school year?
