CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

More fun, less work!

on November 22, 2008

[It’s hard to get 6 kids to do the same thing at the same time! Best I could do!! But they sure are cute!]

I didn’t realize it had been so long!! I’ve been doing a lot of catching up on sleep and cleaning and other lofty things. Hope you all didn’t miss me too much!!

Thursday November 6 was a busy day for us. Milo had a doctor appointment in Oakland with his new oral surgeon. It went well. He seems like a nice guy and one who knows what he’s doing. He has been doing this for 35 years and was knowledgeable about the procedure. He was a little frazzled. I guess when you meet 30 new patients in one day who all want answers NOW, it gets a little stressful. So we left the appointment with the promise of a phone call as a follow up. As of yesterday, November 21, we received an appointment card from Milo’s plastic surgeon. It’s the follow up we were looking for (the plastic surgeon and oral surgeon work together on his next surgery. They talked and now we have another appointment, in January). Scott took the day off so he could go to the appointment too. We had a yummy lunch at Gayle’s restaurant. When we got there Gayle wasn’t there. Apparently her dog, Pin-Pin, was very sick and she had to take her to the vet. Gayle was pretty shook up about it and we felt bad. But we were also glad we could be there to give her a hug and tell her we love her. After we got the other kids and got home, I did a little school and then took Jaime and Alix to their classes. While they did their classes I ran errands by myself. It was a SHOCK to be in the van all by myself. I kept looking back to make sure I hadn’t forgotten that a kid was in the car!! I took the car to the tire place to have the tires checked and rotated. They said it would be an hour so I walked across the street to Target and enjoyed taking advantage of their Halloween sales. I got done with the car in enough time to go back and get the girls. We got home, had dinner and went to bed. Yay!!

Sunday, November 9 was our monthly dinner. We had 7 adults and 16 kids. We did a soup theme. It was so YUMMY! Scott made homemade rolls and we had taco soup, turkey corn soup and chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles. It was a yummy night for sure! We topped off the evening with ice cream!

Monday November 10 the kids and I went on a field trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Scott put in the back seat so that I could carpool with Laura. We put 11 people in the van and left about 9:30am. We got to the Aquarium with no one throwing up (first time!!). It was homeschooling day at the aquarium so we got in for free. With Laura paying half gas, it was a very inexpensive, fun trip. We saw all kinds of fun stuff and the kids were just in awe. In every room Niah would pick “her fish” and follow it around till she couldn’t any more. In another area they had set up a homeschooling room where the kids could go in and do lots of hands on stuff and take activities to do at home. We really did have a great time and only two kids got “lost”. I was standing right behind Niah but she didn’t know it and started running and calling for me. I followed her and we had a joyous reunion. However, in the process Afton had followed me out and I didn’t realize it and Niah and I went back to the exhibit. It was then I realized that Afton was gone. When I found her (a minute later) she was standing with this group of people saying ‘Mom, where’s mom. I need mom.’ She was not upset, just matter of fact. When I got her attention she threw her arms down and said ‘There you are.’ It was too funny! After we left there and got everyone back in the car, Laura and I started talking about this park that we had heard of/seen. So we found the park. It was called the Dennis the Menace park. It was VERY cool. We let the kids get out and play. They played for an hour on the HUGE steam train engine, rock climbing, suspension bridge, maze, slides ect….. We left because it got dark, not because the kids were done! We got home about 7:30pm. It really was a very fun day and everyone was so good and happy the whole day. Even Keri did a good job! It’s nice to have a mellow baby.
