We had so much fun going on our other field trips that we went on another one. However, this one was laced with much more adventure and excitement….
Since Milo and Niah are in a co-op that is based off the books Little House On The Prairie, this field trip was suppose to give the kids a sense of what a town on the prairie was like. We actually had low numbers going this time and so Milo invited his best bud Toby so that he wouldn’t be the only boy again and I took Afton too. We all got into Gina’s van this time and headed out. I was not aware that the road to this “little town on the prairie” was windy. VERY WINDY. And if any of you have had to hear the car sick stories I have had to tell, you know where this is going…
I already know that Niah has car sick issues and Afton always claims she does but never has a problem. So when I looked behind me and saw Niah as white as a ghost, I asked Gina to pull over. Niah got out and walked around and we opened all the windows and turned on the air conditioning and kept going. About 40 minutes later when Afton claimed that she was car sick, I gave her a bag and told her she was fine and we were only a few minutes away. Apparently she wasn’t fine and puked all over my friends van. Her new van. Her clean, nice, no eating in it van. Talk about embarrassed.
Now in my van I am prepared for all this. I have puke bags, buckets, towels, plastic bags for putting it all into. I have Dramamine and sea bands. But it never occurred to me to take those things with me and of course, my friend was NOT equipped with all those things. For the last 10 years, I’ve always done the driving and haven’t worried about my kids puking in other people’s cars. It was truly a moment I shall never forget!
Ok, on to the fun of the field trip…
The moms in charge of arranging this field trip set up these activities: an old time picture, a visit to the candy (shoppe including candy samples), lunch in a saloon, old time bowling (the kids had set up the pins), visiting 2 museums, a cemetery and an old school house and LOTS of rock climbing. All for $5 each. It was a really fun day.
For the drive home I bought some Dramamine and we drove the whole way with all the windows open. We had to stop twice to let Afton out but otherwise, we made it home puke free. YAY!!
