My son is now 10. That is so weird to think I have 3 children in double digits. He’s only 2 short years away from holding the priesthood. That’s weird to think about!!
Anyway, since it was Milo’s 10th birthday, he got to invite friends and have a “real” party. His actual birthday, March 21, landed on a Thursday. That same day was Scott’s last 2 finals for the quarter. Crazy day to say the least. So he agreed that Thursday would just be a normal day and Friday, the day of his party, would be his real celebration. So Thursday was just like any other day but Friday, he didn’t have to do chores or school or anything. He just got to be king for the day!
He invited 11 boys over. 10 were able to come. I realized way too late that I didn’t know how to throw a boy party. Up till this point all the parties I’ve thrown have been girlie princess parties. Wednesday night I had a bit of a panic moment. But Scott reassured me. Boys don’t need much. Give them some laser guns and you won’t have to do anything. He wasn’t kidding!!
Milo wanted a treasure hunt around the neighborhood. Jaime and Alix did that. He wanted a raw cookie dough cake. I made that. He wanted to play laser tag. The Bennett’s have those. Party done!
Milo had a BLAST! All the boys had a BLAST!! Because of all the things we are involved in, Milo invited boys from all different social circles. It would have been easy for one or two boys to be left out. But that didn’t happen. All the boys got along great and no one felt left out. Boy parties are so fun!! :o)
Side note. Because the boys were having so much fun playing laser tag, Milo did not open his gifts that night from his friends. Then the next day Scott was gone most of the day and we had to clean the church first thing in the morning. So Milo wasn’t able to open his presents till Saturday night. That poor boy almost died of a heart attack waiting to open up all those presents! He was very blessed this year. He has some VERY generous friends and family members indeed!
Some of my Favorite things about Milo:
-He hero worships his dad. If he is going to hero worship anybody, that’s the guy!
-He is a good brother. He’s perfect at tormenting his younger sisters and teasing his older sisters. And yet, he is so kind and loving. I’ll never get it…. :o)
-He takes the gospel so seriously. He found a journal that was given to him when he was 8 and just decided to start writing in it. He loves the scriptures and asks good questions both at home and at church. He can’t wait to serve a mission some day.
-He does not give up. That boy is a go getter. When he can’t do something the first time he keeps going. When he falls and gets hurt, he gets right back on. When everyone else is better than him, he keeps trying and doesn’t get discouraged. He’s a good example of good sportsmanship.
-He’s a friend to old and young. All boys in our ward, despite their age, LOVE Milo (well, some of the girls do too!!). :o)
Love you Milo!
