CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Field Trips

on March 14, 2013

When Jaime, Alix and even Milo were young, we did lots of field trips. As often as once a week sometimes. As the kids got older and it was necessary for me to stay home more and focus on school more and extra curricular activities. Field trips had gone by the way side. I don’t think Keri or Afton have ever been on a field trip.

So I took care of this problem in January. We went on TWO field trips!

The first one was to the railroad museum in Old Sacramento. We went with our Monday co-op group. It was Niah, Milo and I. We took my van and filled it with two more parents and 7 more children. It was a fun trip. I have forgotten so much about old Sac but a few things fluttered into remembrance as we walked those streets.

Our co-op is based off the books Little House on the Prairie. We were so pleased when we came across the old school house and that it was open for tours. It fit in perfectly with the theme of our books. An older lady dressed up like a school teacher did back then and gave a lesson and made the children act as they would have had to act in a classroom.

Getting stronger!

Boys and girls sat on opposite sides of the schoolroom. Milo was the only boy on this field trip!!

The Chaperones

A real train passing by as we ate lunch

This museum was pretty cool!

The second one we did was to the San Jose Tech Museum. We had just gone there with my brother and his family but it was free and the kids had so much fun before I figured it would be just as fun again. We were not disappointed and I actually remembered a camera!

This robot thing was pretty cool. My kids could have watched it for hours! Do you see what the blocks say?

Another favorite. My girls like to run around and try to capture each others circles.

These three have a good time together

Milo had a few buddies there and hung out with them most of the time. I didn’t see him much but he said he had a great time.

This is a fun exhibit too. You move the blocks around to create different musical sounds.

Not our child, but a good friend of ours. I just thought this looked so cool! These light circles are fun and the kids get pretty creative with them.

Afton, Me then Keri. Blue is cold, red is hot. Not sure what green is.

Use your shadow to capture and then filter the water running off this cliff. Much harder than it sounds!

I had a ton of fun with this one. The circle that the blocks are on is not balanced and you balance it by putting the blocks on. We had fun trying to see how high we could go before the scale tipped and all our blocks fell off. We only left this one because others wanted a turn.

Simulating what it would be like to control a space something.

The better design you make with your windmills the better the electric flow you can create. Afton was here for an hour. I kept coming back to check on her and she was still there. They even brought a stool over for her so she could reach better. I never realized how focused she can be on something!

Catching butterflies.

Both very fun! We have another field trip at the end of March. I’m kinda liking this…
