CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Family of Pirates

on November 2, 2008

[Like I said, my costume fell through. But the others turned out great. Too bad I didn’t get any really good ones of the kids individually. No picture could really show how incredibly cute all my little pirates were. *sigh*]

At this point my life is about to explode with business. It was already busy but now the “real” fun was about to begin!!

Thursday October 30 started out as any normal day would. Cleaning, school, watch Toby and Logan, go to dance/art class and run errands. After I picked up Jaime and Alix I picked up dinner for everyone and headed to the church. I met Camille there so we could decorate for the ward Halloween Carnival. Camille and I volunteered to do the party since there seemed to be no other takers. For that last 2 weeks we had been working like crazy to get all the details of the party worked out and now it was only 1 day till the party and we were feeling very unprepared. But we decorated with high spirits. We didn’t have as many people show up as we thought were going to for the decorating, but we worked hard and finally gave up at 11pm. I came home and did more preparations before finally crashing at 1am.

Friday October 31 was the big day. I got up early, 6am, did more preparations and planned to leave the house by 9:30am. That didn’t work. I finally left the house at 11. I ran some errands. One was to go to the pet store and get some coupons for our fishing game. Another ward in our stake got feeder fish coupons and that is what the kids got during the fishing game. Then they could go to the pet store later and redeem the coupon for a free fish. Unfortunately PETA got to the pet store before me. They are no longer called feeder fish. All fish are pets. We should not refer to them as food. Fine! Could I get some Comet fish coupons then. Nope, can’t get those either. Can I just buy some fish then? Nope! Can’t buy more than 5 fish at a time. I hate PETA. I could however contact corporate head quarters. Which I did. They directed me to their website. I’d have to write a proposal as to why I want the fish and how many and what will be done with them. Once I submit the proposal I have to wait 90 days for them to give me an answer. Oh forget it!! We’ll give out pencils and candy instead! After that frustrating incident I went down to the church to decorate. We got there by noon. I fed the kids and started working by 12:30. At 2 Jen and kids showed up to help for a while. Camille got there by 3. We worked our little fanny’s off. By 4:30 I left to go get the kids ready. I didn’t have time to get myself ready, but that was fine, my costume wasn’t as great as the kids’ costume anyway! We got finished, picked up some Chinese ladies that live down the street (they are investigating the church) and went back. I had 20 minutes to tie up all the loose ends and then the party started. It was a HUGE success!! The night before we had made a huge spider web that took over the ceiling of our two room cultural hall. In the middle we had made a big spider. Off of each web strand we hung a strand of lights. We put lights around the whole cultural hall and then turned off the main lights during the event. We put the two bounce houses in the 3rd room of the cultural hall and left the lights on in there. So it gave it such a cool “mood”. We had face painting, a craft, cotton candy, popcorn, 5 different carnival games, a relay, a pinata, trick or treating, dinner…… It was SOOOOO fun! We had so many compliments about how awesome the party was. All the kids had fun and got LOTS of candy. The adults had fun too!! We cleaned up and made it home by 10pm. After getting a few things done around the house, we retired to bed by 1am.

while you may not have had a real costume, your facial expression in the picture more than makes up for it… were you really a pirate in a previous life??

You look more like a biker chick. Will you be my motorcycle mama?
