CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

The Family Giving Tree

on January 24, 2013

We participated in the Family Giving Tree service project again this year. The kids and I went on Thursday December 13 and then Scott and I went again with the youth on Tuesday December 18.

The first time we got to check toys and make sure they were what the kids asked for and attach a toothbrush if it was the correct item.

Keri “helping” check things off a list. I didn’t bring my camera that night but one of my friends got this shot of Keri. Better than nothing!

The second time we went we got a sheet of paper and got to go “shopping” for a child’s dream present.

It was interesting to watch and be part of such a spectacular event. Old and young alike did not want to give up till they found the perfect gift for a child they had never met and would never meet. The spirit of Christmas and giving was so strong.

One of the pile of gifts. Amazing really! People are so generous!

I appreciate this service project that we’ve done now two years in a row and hope to have the opportunity to continue to do it. I think the thing I like best about it is that it reminds me how very blessed we are. Some of those kids were not going to receive anything else on Christmas morning. My children did not get anything spectacular in worldly terms, but they got simple things that they wanted and were happy and satisfied. I’m grateful that we are able to provide that happiness for our children. I just hope and pray that each of those children that we helped at the Family Giving Tree woke up Christmas morning as happy as my children did.
