CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Thanksgiving Day

on December 27, 2012

Thanksgiving day is a much anticipated event around here. We talk for weeks about what we will eat and make list after list of good food and what we need to shop for. This year was no different.

Cereal is a rare breakfast around here. The kids were super stoked to get some!

I love to wake up early on Thanksgiving morning and get the turkey started. I get up around 5 have it in by 6:30am. Why?? I think the earlier you eat on Thanksgiving the more times you get to eat!! Once at noon, again at 4 maybe again at 8 with a little more pie at 10. It’s the perfect glutenous day. No other time do I feel justified to eat that much!!

Cheesing it up for the camera!

It was pretty cold Thanksgiving morning.

Scott got up around 7 and started the rolls. Everyone else was up by 8 and we had some cereal for breakfast and then most of the family headed out to the Turkey Trot being hosted by the Elder’s Quorum at church. Jaime, Milo, Grandma and I stayed home. Milo was too sick and the rest of us were finishing up the prep for Thanksgiving.

Grandma and Milo made turkey candy holders to put at each table setting. They were so cute and held super yummy goodies!

After a while Jaime joined in the fun!

The Turkey trot was successful. Everyone in our family who tried finished. Alix rode her bike, Scott ran. Not super stellar times in comparison to most competitors, but AMAZING times for them.

Good job Alix! That was her time for a 5K on her bike

Once they got back the hub bub of getting things done and timed just right began. Our friends the Toh Family and the Butt Family showed up shortly before dinner. We had a wonderful feast of not only food but conversation and laughter.

The Turkey. This picture does not do it justice. It totally looked like a beautiful, yummy gem right out of a magazine photo!

Another view of my prize turkey. I’m so prideful about this, but it was so yummy looking and tasting.

Look at those stellar rolls! They were so YUMMY!

When can I eat????

Father and son working together wishing they had an electric knife….

Crazy picture of most of the rest of the good eats.

We needed two tables to fit all the food and ore dourves.

Mmmmmm!

Because of his recent sickness, he couldn’t finish his yearly tradition of eating an entire turkey leg by himself. O’well. There will be other years.

After clean up, a few rounds of Catch Phrase and a walk, we had some dessert. Pies, jello, ice cream etc. Such a feast.

See the pies in the background?? Pumpkin, banana cream, chocolate, pecan, apple, shoo fly, layered jello, ice cream…..

So good it was gone before I could get a picture of her plate of desserts.

About 5:30pm we went over to the Butt’s house and watched Brave on their huge screen T.V. Grandma and Grandpa decided to stay home and rest. Once we finished that we headed back over here (the Butt’s only live a few houses away). Jaime wanted to brave Black Friday (er, I mean late night Thursday) for the first time and Tanya Butt was game to that. Scott, Grandpa and Kyle Butt challenged each other to a game of Scrabble (which I hear Kyle kicked Butt!! :o)

Very cool creation by Milo using Scott’s constructs set.

Jaime, Tanya and I fared very well at Black Friday. Found everything we had gone in for, plus lots more. We were in and out with all of our items in 1 hour. It took that long because I was perusing the isles!! So not like my first Black Friday experience when I seriously thought my life was on the line! Maybe because it was Thursday night and not Friday morning. People were too full to fight and push maybe…

After we got home and chatted a little more the Butt’s went home and the Thompson’s went to bed. A successful Thanksgiving for sure!
