CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Halloween Night

on November 25, 2012

Halloween Night was so fun this year. The kids always love Halloween night. Our traditions have changed a bit over the years but basically we dress up and hand out candy.

Due to scheduling the last few years we have carved our pumpkins early Halloween night and then put them out just in time for the trick or treating to start. We also started inviting the missionaries to join us since they are not suppose to be out and about on Halloween night.

Poor Elder Sanchez. He had only been in the mission field a few hours when he showed up at our house to carve pumpkins, eat pumpkin guts and be absolutely overwhelmed!! He came from being the only child at home to our chaotic 6. He’s still here so I guess we didn’t scare him too much!

So that is what we did. Carve pumpkins. Have dinner. Dress up in costume. Hand out candy to trick or treaters.

The pumpkin Jaime and Milo carved was grown in our garden! Too bad I didn’t get a picture of it before we carved it. It was that perfect shape, color and size. Awesome!!

But we did change one thing this year. The kids went trick or treating. The first time for all but Jaime. Now before the bah humbugs start flying, let me explain my dilemma all these years.

Who needs that much candy??? After attending the ward Halloween party, we usually have so much candy, I can put it on the shelf in the garage or the freezer and there is enough for the rest of the year. And the kids have all had their fill! So why get more??? That only puts more in the house that I or Scott end up eating.

So we just don’t go trick or treating. The kids don’t usually miss it. They’ve never complained about it. As a matter of fact when I told them we were going to go, they weren’t sure they wanted to!!

The Elder’s did the Chinese Characters. The cat and guy in a big hat was done by Keri and Niah (a.k.a. mom and dad!), the face was Alix and Afton and the bat was Jaime and Milo. Cool huh??

The only reason we went was because a few families on the street specifically asked me to bring the kids by on Halloween night. So I did. We hit 6 houses. Perfect number of houses. Not too much candy and the kids were done anyway. They didn’t even want to go to the 6th house. But we did.

Anyway, all in all a VERY fun and VERY successful Halloween. They are still trying to come off their sugar high!! :o)
