[For a while Niah and Afton shared a sign. It was too cute!!]
So we had the neatest experience on Tuesday (October 21). I took the kids to a YES on PROP 8 rally. I know, it sounds crazy, but we went. A group of ladies from the stake went and I decided to go along. I’m so glad I did. Not only did it help me to see so many amazing people and see that they too are voting YES on PROP 8, but it was a great teaching opportunity for my kids. They learned a lot about Democracy, marriage, families and voting. I was amazed at how peaceful but full of energy the rally was. There were some NO on PROP 8 people across the street and one came into the rally. But it was all done in peace. We had several speakers from different Christian denominations and then the Stake President from one of the San Francisco stakes spoke. It was amazing the difference in the speeches The other speakers got the crowd all chanting and shouting approval of what they had just said. But when the stake president got up, he just had a spirit about him that was amazing. The whole crowd fell silent and I was touched by his words. There were probably about 120 – 150 in attendance. I would say at least half were Tongan. My friend Jen told me that her dad is in the stake presidency of his stake and he attended a rally the Sunday before. He was amazed!! It was 95% Chinese and there were 5,000 in attendance. He said the energy there was amazing! It was a great experience and one I highly recommend.
Anyway there were about 5 different news reporting agencies there. They seemed to take particular interest in the children and babies. Since I was there with Keri and my friend Laura was there with Ryan we got a lot of attention and was sure we would make it on T.V. NOPE!! But Niah did!! She got her 5 seconds of fame!

At about 1:50 you see Milo. But you have to know it’s Milo. He’s wearing a red shirt and a sign is covering his face. At 2:30 you see Niah dancing. If you look behind her you can see my arm sway into the shot with a full back view of Keri wearing pumpkin p.j.’s and below that you can see Laura’s legs with Ryan crawling around her. It all happens in a matter of 5 seconds!! But Niah was on T.V.
After we got home the kids were all jazzed up about the rally. They took their signs and decorated their bikes, the van and themselves! Milo and Niah were walking up and down the street chanting ‘YES on 8, YES on 8’. Every person Niah meets she says ‘Guess what? We are voting YES on 8.’ The power of little kids. It’s awesome!
In case you were wondering there are a couple other opportunities to participate in a rally for YES on PROP 8:

I think I may have seen Niah on TV, but not sure. Anyway, way to go. In TX we don’t have a prop 8. Thank God that is not an issue here…..yet. I am sure if prop 8 goes through in CA other states will adopt it. Although, TX isn’t too liberal.
