Apparently we don’t have much luck with windows. Our windows seem to hold up to us just fine, but other peoples’ windows….beware!!!
In August my friend (Roberta) was moving. We went over to her place to help her out with a few things while she was busy working. She had left the key to her place in a little closet right outside the front door. When I got there I opened the door to the closet and stepped inside. Then I bent over to get the key out of it’s hiding place. Apparently my backside is bigger than I’d like to admit and it hit the door, which then swung open and promptly put it’s door handle right through the front window, which happens to be behind said closet door.
As soon as I heard the crash, I stayed where I was and said ‘Ah dang, that did NOT just happen.’ Then I hear Scott in the back ground just crack up. The whole window is shattered. Glass everywhere. It’s 8 at night and I am so thankful for his laughter because I might have cried. Oh wait, I forgot to tell the best part of the story….her landlord was scheduled to come the next day at noon to do her final walk through. That was why we were there, to help get her out in time.
I started calling glass people at 8am the next morning, begging for mercy and an open spot. After an hour of calling 15 different companies and even getting desperate and calling individual contractors, I got a call back from a company (Roadrunner Glass) that said they had a cancellation and they could be there at 10:30. YAY. The glass guy pulled away from her place at 11:30, I left at 11:40 and my friend’s inspection went GREAT!! Whew. Done with that game.
Now fast forward 10 days… Alix comes home from a babysitting job and says to me, ‘Mom, don’t kill me.’ You HATE those words. Apparently she was in the kitchen and there was a fly buzzing around. You gotta hate that. Anyway, the fly landed on the kitchen window (the big kitchen window) and Alix kills it with the palm of her hand….and shatters the window at the same time!!! I never knew she had such strength.
I got on the phone with my friend (Tanya) and told her I knew this GREAT window fixing place. Unfortunately she is freaking out because the owner of her house told them that they call him too much and he feels like they are damaging too many things. Oh GREAT!! So I tell her the story about my other friends place and that I’m going to call a window guy and they will be out tomorrow to fix it. Her owner won’t know or care because we took care of it.
So I called the glass place back and when I gave her my name and number she said ‘Oh, you don’t have much luck with windows do you?’ She remembered me!! It would have been classic if it had been the SAME window guy, but it wasn’t. Anyway, less than 24 hours later her window was fixed too. Then we made a family vow that we wouldn’t touch other peoples’ windows for a while!! :o)
The worst part of the whole thing??? I didn’t get a picture or either window!! Ah Dang….
