On my quest to help Milo get all the patches for Trail Trekkers, a cub scout hiking program, we did a hike at the beginning of August. It was SUPER fun and so nice. Once again the weather was cool, maybe even cold, but I realize that is the PERFECT hiking weather.
I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
We started the hike at the visitor center. It had A LOT of interactive things for the kids to do.
Milo and Jacob. Rodeo boys!
They had a hut/tepee in there and the kids thought that was pretty cool!
After hiking around the lagoon we made it to the beach were the kids ate lunch and played in the sand. They were suppose to not get wet. How well do you think that went….
Trying to build a sand mountain faster than the waves could knock it down.
Even though it wasn’t a super sunny day, the weather was still good enough to enjoy both the beach and the hike without getting too hot or too cold.
All the kids found some amazing shells that they brought home.
These two cuties kept walking back to the Lagoon. Just recently my family has found the TV show, H2O (which is totally out of character for us) and a Lagoon is a big part of the show. Afton was mesmerized by seeing an actual lagoon.
All the kids had such a good time! There were 12 of us. 10 kids and 2 adults.
The scouts that attended the event.
Our little camp that we set up while the kids played. We were on the beach a little over an hour.
We sat on this big log while we ate and chatted. Eventually the boys decided they would dig under it and try to push it down the beach. They did a good job. They got it to move an inch maybe… :o) But they had TONS of fun doing it!
Instead of going back around the Lagoon we followed the kids up this hill. It seemed promising…..
Gorgeous views from the top of this hill.
The view from the top. We were down on that beach. If you look really close you can see the big log the boys tried to push down the beach. The hike up the hill was worth it for the views.
Up on the top of the hill were old gun batteries that were used in both world wars. The boys thought it was the coolest thing and started to pretend to shoot things. The most amazing part was the description of the guns that used to be there “….the barrel of this SMALL gun was 3 inches in diameter and the bullets weighed in at 15 lbs each. The bullets could travel up to 5 miles…” Small nothing!!
Cute little girls.
Coolest thing! There were wild blackberries growing on the battery and the kids ate their fill. It was so neat and they were so GOOD!
See that huge boat in the background?? Beautiful. Off to the left of this picture is the Golden Gate bridge. That boat came out of the bay and out into the ocean. Such a beautiful day/view/hike!
After we left the gun battery we got a little lost and ended up on the trail to the light house. Unfortunately the light house itself was closed, but we had more beautiful views and found bathrooms!! The hike back to the car was a little interesting. We had to walk along the road and it was windy and there wasn’t a path. So we just prayed that we’d see cars and they’d see us. It turned out fine and we saw more things that we wouldn’t have seen and we wore the kids out more than if we had taken the shorter route. All in all a perfect day!
