More often than not, we spend 4th of July in Utah. However, this year we were spending 4th of July at home. Since we don’t do this very often, it was almost difficult to decide what to do. But I actually found it quite easy to fill the day (are you surprised??).
You got a brief run down from Scott. Here are the juicy details!! :o)
We started the morning off with breakfast at the church. Milo was part of the color guard for the flag ceremony. We invited Roberta and her new boyfriend, Laurent and his new girlfriend and of course Sophie and Emi. Tong Tong came too (Laurent’s girlfriend’s daughter). It was nice to spend the morning with them. They seemed to enjoy themselves and when we left to watch the city’s 4th of July parade, Laurent and Youshu were still there talking with the missionaries.
We left the breakfast and went to the middle of town to watch the parade. We parked at the church building nearest the parade and walked about 20 minutes to the parade route. We missed the first couple of entries, but settled down quickly and were able to enjoy the rest of the parade. Some friends from Jaime’s dance class saw us and their family joined us too. It was a perfect way to spend the morning.
We came home in enough time to enjoy some 4th of July food for lunch.
Then we told the kids we wanted one and a half hours of cleaning. We gave them specific chores to do that would be perfect for the amount of time given. They each should have finished just a little early. After that we would walk to 7-11 and get slurpee’s and play at the park before coming home. Everyone who finished would get a slurpee.
Not to focus on anything negative, but something I think should be recorded, Alix, Milo and Niah did not finish. When we asked them why they did not do their job they said ‘We didn’t think you were serious.’ Hmmm, I always thought of myself as a follow through parent, but apparently not??? They did not get slurpees. They finally came to grips with it and we had a VERY FUN family walk and play time at the park.
After that we came home and had a bbq, complete with smores.
It was such a fun and relaxing day. A VERY good family day. We all enjoyed it and needed it. After being at girls camp I think the kids needed some good ole family time.
Love our nation. Love the Flag. Love our freedoms. Love what the Lord has given us. We are SO BLESSED.
Oh you are a follow through parent, maybe because it was a holiday they thought you wouldn’t really mean it?
Oh you are a follow through parent, but sometimes when it’s a holiday kids think its a “day off.”
