CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

What to say about me?? I’ve been a busy bee but would feel like I was boasting to list it all. But I suppose for posterity (the true reason I write this blog) it would be fun to read and know what I do….

-Earlier this year I was contacted by the Program Director of Cub Scout Day Camp and asked if I wanted to be Camp Director this year. She had hinted that I should do it when I volunteered last year as a station lead. I kindly told her ‘heck no! not on your life!’ But when she contacted me in February, I was in better spirits and agreed to do it. So mid April I was off to camp school to learn how to be the best camp director ever…. I had a great time. Good food, good people and not much sleep! If you ever have a chance to go to a boy or cub scout camp school, you should! They are intense! After 2.5 days of constant work, I graduated as a camp director and was “certified” to run a camp. Ah, dang…now I really DID have to be camp director this year.

My "den" at Scout Camp

-Around this same time I was also asked if I’d attend girls camp. I was not caught on a good day and originally said no. A few days later I was called as the second counselor in the Young Women’s presidency. After a lot of praying and fasting and talking with my husband, I contacted the camp director and apologized for my original rejection and told her I’d LOVE to go to camp. Boy am I glad I did. Camp ROCKED!! SO FUN!! The girls I had were AWESOME!! I am so grateful that I had the opportunity and would do it again in a heartbeat! I’ll write another post on camp with pictures.

-For most of this year I’ve been a fill in helper for the Bear leader in our ward. If Kimberly didn’t need help with the boys I helped by tending her children. It was really fun and I enjoyed getting to know her little ones better and seeing more of what the boys do. Such a great program. I love scouting!

Mmmmm, the part I like about being a secret shopper.... :o)

-Earlier this year I signed up to be a secret shopper. In some ways it is super fun. In other ways it’s not worth my time and effort. I can’t decide if I enjoy it or not. I get free stuff but the pay is less than minimum wage. The kids think it’s cool that I get to be “under cover” but I think it’s stressful at times and am always afraid I’ll blow that cover!! For now I do about one a month. My friend Audrey is the secret shopper queen! Maybe that will be me some day…..

-I’m a taxi for sure! Wednesdays are always our busy days, but I don’t mind too much. Gets us out of the house every once in a while!

-I still love to babysit. I can have 10+ kids here on any given day. I don’t mind. It’s fun to have playmates for the kids and it’s a good feeling to know I’ve helped out a mom. I used to get SO MUCH HELP from people when my kids were young I don’t mind returning the favor. However, I also realized that this school year suffered a bit because of my helpfulness. So I’ve been slowly spreading the word that I won’t be able to babysit as much during the school year. My three little boys that I watch twice a week are going to not come back in September. We will all miss them but Milo will miss them the most! He loves his Tuesday/Thursday brothers!

Gett'n the garden ready

-We’ve had to say goodbye to some really good people this summer. The Eyre’s moved!! The Tan’s moved!! Sad, sad summer!

-Other than all that I still keep myself busy with teaching school, cooking, cleaning, donating blood, canning summer fruits, reading and trying to master the skill of budgeting!!

All in all it’s been a good half of the year. Busy but fun. With Scott in school a lot sometimes I feel like a single parent, but it never bothers me. I know that this stage of life will be short and right now it works for us. We will all be better people when Scott is done with his education. This part of our lives has been full of so much growth and opportunity that we would never have had if Scott had not gone back to school. Good stuff!

So fun to run a rototiller!!
