CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Milo

on June 20, 2012

We so lovingly call Milo Bilo. Why you ask? Because that is what his three little sisters have called him while they learned the “m” sound.

We sure do enjoy this only boy. There are times of reflection when he is seriously tormenting his sisters or me!! He thinks it’s the funniest thing. But I’ve learned that the best cure to that is to send him on a run around the block. If I send him 4 times in one day, it’s a mile. I figure at his age, that should be no problem. Especially for this active 9 year old!! And really, he enjoys it too. He says he wants to get stronger and run faster and farther, so it works for both of us.

Milo has asked most of his life for a brother. Since we could never produce a brother for him, I do day care instead! He has 3 brothers that come over on Tuesdays and Thursdays and all 3 of them worship Milo! Just how it should be. Ya know, he hasn’t asked for his brother for a long time!

Baking cookies at Scouts

Milo is most active in Scouts. He LOVES scouts. He enjoys the “boy” time doing “boy” things and I think it’s really good for him. He is motivated by the patches, belt loops, pins and advancements. His happiest times are when Scott or I will say, ‘Milo, get your scout book.’ If only he were that motivated with his chores!! :o)

Gett'n ready for a swim party at scouts

He is doing really well in piano too. He did hit a wall about a month ago, but his piano teacher is AWESOME. She noticed it and stepped back a bit and he is again excelling and enjoying it. We have a renewed determination to learn the notes again too. So we have been super diligent in making the note flashcards part of his daily piano routine.

This kid and weapons. Scott mentioned something about nuclear bombs once and Milo was so interested in learning all about them and what they do. Then for the next several weeks, it was all about nuking this and nuking that. This kid is all boy!!

Milo LOVES to ride his bike too. If he can be on his bike in the afternoon he is SO happy.

Taking apart the motor he saved off of my sister's electric bed. This kid will take ANYTHING apart. He's good at it too. Keeps him busy for hours!

The heat seems to be taking it’s toll on Milo. As much as he loves to be outside and run and ride his bike, if we are not careful he will get a wicked headache. So I try REALLY hard to make sure he has his hat, sunglasses and plenty of water. He’s amiable to it since he doesn’t want a headache!

Gett'n the garden ready

Whenever possible Milo will volunteer himself as Scott’s right hand man. They do so many little projects together. All of which Milo thrives on. Recently they cleaned out both side yards together and moved all the firewood from a pile in the front yard to a pile in the side yard. They worked long and hard and were both satisfied men at the end of the day. Instant gratification for work well done!

Milo has a new found love of cooking. He is constantly asking if he can cook something or bake something or help me during meal preparations. I don’t mind at all. He is getting good at it and it will be a good thing to know when he serves his mission and goes to college.

Trying to kick across the pool to earn his swimming belt loop. It took him a few tries but he finally did it! Yay Milo!

He couldn't get floating. But then again, I can't float either.

With summer comes swimming and Milo tries hard but just doesn’t quite have the confidence to try too much when it comes to the water. I think of all my kids, he’ll need the swim lessons and soon. I’m concerned he’ll get too afraid of the water and that won’t be good either.

That about sums up Milo and his life so far. He is looking forward to Cub Scout Day Camp in about 4 weeks. Otherwise, his summer will be full of school, chores and swimming! Love ya man!
