CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Fun times

on April 26, 2012

Since I have the ability to cram TONS of stuff into one day, I love to use my talent frequently. So on the day of the piano recital, I was not satisfied with just having a piano recital….

Saturday March 24, started with Scott leaving early to get some school work done before our crazy day started. We had the recital from 10-11. We walked to the recital and home again since it was only at the church. It was a super cold day but the kids had fun. Jaime and Alix both had a friend come over after the recital. Scott stayed at the church to do more schoolwork. We had lunch and changed clothes.

Scott got home in enough time to change his clothes and help gather up the children. We were meeting up with another family to go on a Cub Scout Trail Trekkers Hike. It had been cold all day but no rain. Yay, perfect day for a hike. As we turned off our street the rain started. It didn’t seem so bad so we kept going. We met up at about 1. It steadily rained for the next 3 hours. But we all had fun.

Not a super great photo but we take what we can get! The boys and dads and Niah, took the high road, us moms and the strollers and Afton took the road that went around the hill. Still a good trek for us all.

The only thing I didn’t think about was Keri’s cast. But we wrapped it up in a poncho and put her in a stroller and it all worked out perfect. The boys had SO MUCH FUN!! I didn’t mind the rain so much when I realized that if we had done this same hike in the sun, it would have been a nightmare!

Jaime and Alix stayed home to host their guests that they had invited over. I think they really enjoyed the freedom that brought. But they missed the hike too. We all love to hike!

After coming home wet and muddy and a bit cold, I jumped in the shower and got dressed because Jaime and I were going to our first Y.W. broadcast together. I hadn’t been to one since I was in Y.W. and Jaime and never been. It was fun to be there with her and enjoy her company. We made it home about 9. Whew! Busy, busy day. But fun. Especially the hike in the rain. REALLY FUN.

While we were on the hike, we walked out over some marshes. They had built wood platforms to walk on through the marsh. Anyway, the other dad told the boys:

“alright, if you look really close, you’ll find some mallows.”
“What are mallows?”
“They are white, a little puffy, some are really small, some are big and you can only find them in a marsh.”

The boys search and search for those marsh mallows…… :o) Dads rock!
