CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

We Got One

on March 9, 2012

As if we weren’t different enough we now are the only house on the street with a full size trampoline. I’m sure people can hear the shouts of glee and the sound of squeaky springs as my kids jump the morning (and afternoon) away. I’m sure the novelty of it will wear off, but I think it will take a while. Especially since it’s a whole new thing each time a friend comes over!

Figuring out which piece goes next.

For years I’ve wanted a trampoline. There was even a time in our other house that someone was giving one away and asked us if we wanted it. But Scott was not such a fan of them and so we didn’t do it. A couple of years ago Santa almost got the kids one. But just couldn’t justify the cost. Not even the ‘Black Friday’ cost.

But that all changed 3 weeks ago when ‘The Cheese Guy’ called. He said he had a brand new trampoline with the netting around it for $50. WHAT?? Even though it was an AMAZING price we could not afford that right now. But the kids REALLY wanted one. So I told them that if they really wanted it they had to contribute their own money. We figured if each kid put in $6 then mom and dad could fork over the other $20. They all ran upstairs and happily contributed the money.

In our family the kids do not get allowance. Right now we don’t even pay them to do extra chores around the house. This was money they had either earned elsewhere or that they had been saving from their birthday money. This was a big deal for them to do this.

Dad's "helpers"

After getting the tramp home we realized it was missing a piece. But our guy guaranteed it. So after doing some research we found the piece online for $30. He gave us our $30 back and we ordered the piece. It took a week to get here and traveled all the way from Texas. But the day it arrived Scott was so excited he called school done for the rest of the day and put it together.

Yay, we got the missing piece!!

Then the kids jumped and jumped. Unfortunately, it rained the next 3 days and then the tramp was too wet for another one. But this last week they have been the jumping champions.

'I'm SO excited for this!!'

We have had 3 kids fall off!! Afton was first, they forgot to zip the zipper before they started jumping. The next was one of the boys I watch and he was walking around the outside of the netting. The third was one of Afton’s friends who fell off because they did not zip the zipper! Sometimes I think the netting is more dangerous because the kids rely on it too much.

Recess has never been so fun!

Whatever, everyone is happy, healthy and having a good time. Even I take my turn each day and jump. But these old bones will take a lot of babying to get used to that kind of exercise!!

The kids proclaimed our back yard is only missing two things: A pool and a dog. I agree with the pool statement, Scott agrees with dog statement. Both of those may take MANY more years….

Till then, we have the ALMOST perfect kid backyard!

Oh my goodness, my kids would be so jealous!! Everyone around here has tramps. But I have already told them that we will never have one. I know too many people who have gotten seriously hurt on them. So be careful! Especially don’t let a larger kid or adult jump while a smaller kid is on it. It can break the little one’s leg like nothin’!
