CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Thanksgiving

on December 8, 2011

We had such a good Thanksgiving this year. We do every year. I love the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s not only a time to give thanks but it’s a time to get together with friends and family and enjoy a super yummy meal and day together.

I LOVE to cook Thanksgiving dinner. It is the one day a year that I just can’t wait to get in the kitchen and cook, cook, cook! The smells, the tastes and look of all the wonderful things that I created just makes my body and soul so happy. And everything tastes SO GOOD! I might sound a little prideful here and maybe I am just a bit prideful. But I figure I get one day a year to be prideful about my food, huh?? :o)

It’s even better now because all the kids help. I still do the turkey and stuffing. I still stay up till midnight the night before and get up at 5 the morning of. But now the kids have their special dishes they love to make and Scott is, of course, the roll man!

This year went especially well. We finished all the prep about 40 minutes early!! Can you believe that? We would have eaten early but our guests hadn’t arrived so we just put the food in places it could stay warm and enjoyed some quiet before the fun chaos was to begin.

We had 4 other families over besides ourselves and totaled 39 people. 18 kids and 11 adults. It was us, my sister, The Rich Family, The Joseph Family, The Toh Family and Carolanne and her family.

I always insist on doing all the cooking (this is my one and only day I LOVE to cook so I take full advantage of it) but people brought stuff anyway. So we had quite the spread. We had: turkey, ham, stuffing, cheesy potatoes, sweet potatoes, green salad, fruit salad, watergate salad, green bean casserole, 7-layer dip, or’durves(pickle, cheese, olive) and rolls. We were suppose to have deviled eggs too, but those went crashing to the floor before anyone got to try them!

I didn’t get very many pictures this year. I really just forgot!! Not sure why the handy thing wasn’t brought out. Maybe we were just too busy enjoying each other to remember to document the memories in pictures.

We do have a lot to be thankful for this year. We are so blessed. The Lord knows us and takes care of us and never leaves us to flounder on our own. He wants us to learn and grow and make our own decisions but He is always right there waiting to help us when we ask. We know that we have been blessed with the gospel and for that we have even more things to be grateful. As I’ve been reading in the Book of Mormon I read about whole generations dwindling without a knowledge of their God and it seems sad to think I could be living this life without that great knowledge as do others before me and even right now in our world.

We are truly blessed! Happy Thanksgiving!
