CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Afton’s 5th Birthday

on October 8, 2011

Afton hit a milestone! Fifth birthday’s in this family mean PARTY! Afton got to invite 5 friends for a party. She picked princess theme. Since I had Jaime and Alix’s parties to plan, I felt as though Afton’s got neglected a bit. But it all turned out wonderful.

[Oatmeal for her birthday breakfast. Not super excited about it, but eh, at least she wasn’t hungry…. :o)]

Once we found a princess crown invitation online, we printed them off and sent them out. Afton felt super special doing this!

Then we planned princess activities to do:

Make a crown
Make a wand
Do make up
Paint nails
Pretty hair do with ribbon and glitter spray

After that we went shopping for all the princess things we could find. That was fun too. Afton is so princess that she was just in heaven picking out princess/pretty things.

The day of the party arrived. The party was scheduled on her actual birthday, September 7. We got all the cleaning and decorating done. The cake was a bit of drama (always is, you’d think I’d learn) but got done early too.

[You think I would have noticed the crown wasn’t centered…..]

Then we just chilled till the party guests arrived. We put out the snacks and the kids played for a while. Then the princess rotation began. There were enough things to do that each girl was kept busy the whole time.

A young adult from our ward came and did the painting of the nails. Thanks Ashley!

Jaime did hair. I did make up (stop laughing).

Alix did the crown craft. Scott did the wand craft. Milo helped when needed. Niah and Keri joined the party.

Funny story. When I asked Scott to pick a station to help at he about died. He was NOT a princess and couldn’t do any of them. I talked him into doing the wands. By the end he was creating the most wonderful wands and was better at it than I was. He even admitted to enjoying himself. I love that about him. He can go from rough, tough macho man to princess dad in a heartbeat. Love it!

[Alix set up this picture taking station. She had so much fun with it, so did the girls!]

[We turned on some music and danced like pretty princesses]

The party ended with presents, cake, ice cream and one tired and sick birthday girl. Yep folks, she got sick on her birthday. Lucky for us it was over in a few days and all was back to normal, but I’m sure her birthday would have been more complete without the sickness. But the party sure was fun!

[Cute Emily was too shy to join the picture!!]

My five favorite things about Afton:

-Total princess. She looks so cute when she comes down the stairs with “make-up” on (lip gloss).

-She can do her own hair. Needs some work, but super cute.

-She has a love of learning. Constantly asking why she can’t do school all the time.

-A good friend to laugh with. I constantly hear her and her friends laughing about whatever little girls laugh about!

-A good snuggler. Afton’s favorite thing to do is snuggle up with someone under a warm blanket and just chill.

Love you Afton!

I wish I had known you were looking for a princess invitation. I drew one for Nina’s 5th birthday and kept it because it turned out so well. Hopefully I’ll get to use it again someday.

Sounds like she had a ton of fun. I can’t believe our girls are 5/almost 5!!
