CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

More Camping Fun

on September 6, 2008

Friday August, 29 came early again, but that was ok, we wanted to get started earlier since it was suppose to be another HOT day! My friend Erika and I stayed back at camp while Scott and Kris went with Kami and Jaime to get the boat ready and a spot staked out. It took a little longer than expected so by the time they reached us back at camp we were pretty hot already. We were all loaded and ready to go by 10am . We were out at our spot on the lake or on the boat for the rest of the day. Unfortunately I didn’t get many boat pictures. Whenever we went out I forgot to bring the camera. But Jaime, Alix, Milo and Niah all went for tubing rides. Jaime and Milo don’t like it as much as Alix and Niah but they all seemed to have fun. Alix, our little daredevil, was almost thrown (not on purpose) and loved every minute of it! She loves excitement and thrill. We got back to camp about 7pm. It was still HOT but we were all hungry and tired from being on the boat. We all tanked water like we hadn’t drank in months and just lazed around. We had hot dogs, beans, grapes and salad for dinner. It was really good and we enjoyed it very much. Scott and Kris went to a local store and got some ice cream for dessert. It was even too hot to build a fire for smores. We had some neighbors move in across the road. It being a three day weekend and all the place filled up fast. Too bad too, it was nice being by ourselves. Especially at midnight when they started hitting the pinata…..

Saturday morning we thought it would be most productive for Erika and I to take all the kids to the swimming lagoon and let the guys pack up. With the kids occupied we thought it would go faster. I guess we were wrong. It took 3 hours for them to pack up the two sites. We raced home as soon as we were loaded in the car. Jaime and Alix were due at a birthday party at 1pm. We rolled in at 1:50. The party got started late so that was ok and the party lasted till 8pm so there was no fun lost by being late. Once the rest of us got home we cleaned out the car, started laundry, went through mail and messages and and and…. We were pretty hot and tired by the time we were all done but it felt good to be home and clean. We all showered and SCRUBBED ourselves clean. I told Scott I was going to shower the kids. I realized they needed a soaking so I put them in a bath that lasted almost an hour. Boy did they look good!! :0) After Jaime and Alix got home and told us all about their party they went off to bed. What a fun camping trip! It was nice to be together as a family for one day. It was fun to cook everything over the open fire in our cast iron skillet or on a grate. It was fun to play Uno with the kids and have Jaime stomp on Scott 2 games in a row. It was fun to watch Milo pound all the tent stakes in the ground in a semi circle. It was fun to play in the water with the kids and pretend to be monsters and sharks and dolphins. It was fun to be together as a family and make some wonderful memories.

Sunday, August 31 came bright and early. We all got up and ready to go pretty quickly. We got to church and I realized we did not have a blanket or pacifier for Keri so I went home and got one. Scott had to change Afton’s diaper after Sacrament and she leaked so he had to go home and change her and himself. It was an interesting start!! After church we came home, ate lunch and then made some goodies to take to Jessie Bennett’s baptism. It was fun to bake and enjoy the conveniences that come with being at home and having an oven and counter tops!! The baptism went well, we enjoyed the company of more friends and we closed the house down. We came home, had some dinner and early bed times, yay!

I love early bedtimes, but kind of dread the early mornings that come along with it.

Sounds like you guys had fun! Maybe next year, when I am not pregnant, we will go camping for the first time in years! Tell Jessie congratulations…I can’t believe she’s already eight and baptized!!
