CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

I Love My Grandma

on September 2, 2011

The end of July, beginning of August was a wonderful time. I was able to visit with my grandma multiple times in just a couple of weeks. Grandma was staying with Jeri and since that is so close, it was easy to visit grandma often. I went 3 times in two weeks. Each time taking a different set of children with me. I didn’t want to overwhelm grandma all at once!! :o)

On August 6 we had a family reunion at Jeri’s house. It was so fun to see everyone. I think every single person from the family made it except for my cousin Vanessa. I enjoyed catching up with my cousins and enjoying their children. So fun. Even Billie and Keith from Washington came and helped make the party that much better. The food was wonderful. The location perfect and the company enjoyable.

The red eyes are from the spa. The kids ‘swam’ in the spa for 3 hours!!

One interesting thing that I noticed was how mature everyone looked. In other words, I remember as a child getting together with all my aunts and uncles and seeing them as moms and dads. I was a little kid and ran around playing and having fun with my cousins. Now the tables are turned. My aunts and uncles are now the grandma and grandpa’s and I’M the mom with the little kids running around playing with their cousins. It was just an interesting epiphany.

My favorite part about the whole day was getting to see and visit with my grandma one more time before she left again. She is a special woman. One I have admired all my life. She taught me so many things.

There was the summer of sewing. The summer of earring making. The summer of good posture and ‘always look someone in the eye when you are talking to them.’ The summer of field trips where she out walked me up the hills of San Francisco.

She’s had such a huge influence in my life, I miss seeing her more regularly. But I will always relish the time I did get to visit with her and hope to have that opportunity again. I love you grandma!
