CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Slowing Down

on August 30, 2011

After being in Utah and doing a week of camps, I decided we needed to slow down. We also needed to focus on school to keep the kids up to speed on what they knew. It’s the worst to have a summer off and then try and get back into teaching/learning. So I just try and keep it going all summer.

Anyway, for the rest of July and half of August, we just chilled at home. I declined invites, I didn’t volunteer for anything and we just stayed home. Know how amazing that was? For almost 3 weeks straight we went to bed every night with no dishes dirty, no clothes to be folded and all our school work done. The kids all got to bed on time each night too (which was sorely needed after so many days in a row of late nights and early mornings, everyone was exhausted!!). It was just peace! I wish I had the mindset to do that more often!

We did do a few things. Things that were previously scheduled that couldn’t be canceled. On July 20, Jaime got to go horseback ridding with her friend Annalise.

On July 23, Jaime had her birthday party. We’ve decided that the kids get to have a party with friends when they turn 5, 10, &12. So she invited 10 girls to come and 8 said yes. They had a REALLY good time and it was super low key for me. Planning it and making sure everything was just right was a little time consuming, but the actual party went so well. 12 and 13 year olds know how to entertain themselves. It was so nice!!

So the party was a Zumba/water party. My friend Krissy teaches Zumba and offered to teach it at Jaime’s party. Jaime was all over that. She LOVES to dance and especially loves Krissy. The girls had fun. A few opted not to dance, but those who did did AWESOME! Roberta let us use her garage. Thanks Roberta!!

After getting hot and sweaty we headed over to the park for some water games. Fortunately for us a new family just moved in on the corner and let us run a hose from their house to the park. AWESOME!!

All the little spectators. Jaime didn’t mind little ones being there but she really wanted to play the water games with just the big girls.

These two boys made sure everyone got soaked!!

Having fun doing silly relays

Water balloon toss

Free for all! I thought the water fight would have lasted longer than the 5 minutes it lasted. But that was fine. The girls were now soaked and not hot and sweaty!!

Gathered around the food counter. Pizza for dinner and tons of super yummy snacks.

This picture cracks me up. Do you see who is in the middle of all those pre-teen girls?? Yep, Milo! Poor kid. He’ll probably understand women better than he should….

Here is my first attempt at a cool oreo cake. We decided it was a little plain so I stepped it up. I didn’t get another photo of it except when Jaime was having “Happy Birthday” sung to her.

Much better with the chocolate frosting embellishments.

Had to show you the middle of the cake. It was super yummy (again, that is what I was told). Jaime said all of her friends thought it was a store bought cake. Apparently it was super yummy and looked really cool! I enjoyed making it. I always enjoy making the cakes.

Happy Birthday Jaime! Hope it was a good party. We all sure had fun!
