CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

The rest of the Story

on June 18, 2011

Dance recital was not the only thing going on the weekend of June 3-5. We had lots of fun that weekend. Here are the highlights.

First off, it rained the whole weekend. That’s ok because we always need rain, but it sure did put a stop to too much outside fun! Next we had Grandma and Grandpa Thompson here from Friday night to Monday afternoon. That was AWESOME. And we had Louis and his girlfriend Brielle here from Saturday morning till Sunday night.

Friday was spent preparing for everyone to come. Then the girls and I went to dance recital while Scott, grandma, grandpa and the other three stayed here. We got home about 9:15pm and everyone was already asleep.

[I think this is grandma’s favorite thing to do at my house. I’m so glad she loves to do it. And even if she doesn’t, I REALLY appreciate the fact that she does!! I’m so lucky to have her as my mother in law!]

Saturday we picked up Uncle Louis and Brielle and the real fun started! My kids are NOT shy when it comes to meeting someone new. Afton, I think, has a crush on her Uncle Louis and that made for an interesting 2 days. Brielle was a saint and we appreciated her kindness.

[This is how my kids say HI!!]

Most of Saturday was spent preparing for the second dance recital. I took the girls and left early. The rest of the gang got their about 40 minutes later. We all enjoyed the show and Jaime, Alix and Niah all got flowers (thanks Grandma and Grandpa). We came home and got changed and finished the preparations to get to the ward party on time. It was a lasagna cook off and variety show. SO FUN!! We have some super talented families in our ward. Not just in cooking but in entertaining! We did a 1 minute skit depicting our morning chaos and grandma made a crock pot lasagna. SO GOOD!

[Alix with Sister Lau, her activity days leader. Alix wrote a play about the Tree of Life and they performed it at the variety show. It was SO GOOD. Alix did such a good job!]

We left early from the party because everyone was super tired. Grandma and Grandpa went back to the hotel. We put the kids to bed and then Scott, Louis, Brielle and I stayed up late talking. It was nice to have some adult conversation and get to know Brielle a little better.

Sunday came early, but was very organized and we made it to church on time. I was able to sit by myself and listen to the talks and feel the spirit! With that many adults around, my kids were having none of me. That’s ok though. I enjoyed the break.

Just for fun…. One of the sisters in our ward got up and bore testimony of her amazing, handsome husband. She said her mission president promised her that if she served a faithful mission her reward would be a handsome husband. She was grateful she had served a faithful mission. A brother in the ward got up and said his mission president said the same thing and he was able to serve a faithful mission and has a beautiful wife. Well, I couldn’t sit any longer, I got up and said ‘I’m so glad that Scott served a faithful mission…’ I got a good laugh from everyone. Didn’t want to detract from the spirit, but I just couldn’t help it!

Another “exciting” thing happened….I was suppose to teach sharing time in primary and TOTALLY FORGOT!! It’s a good thing kids are forgiving! I think it turned out fine, but I was so embarrassed. Especially since I just sat around on Saturday night goofing off and having fun. No excuses except temporary memory loss! O’well.

On Saturday afternoon we went and got some Papa Murphy’s pizza’s to have for Sunday dinner. After church and some quiet time we popped those things in the oven. What a wonderful thing to have on a cold, rainy Sunday when you don’t want to spend time cooking in the kitchen. You want to spend time visiting and relaxing.

About 8 pm Grandma Thompson and I left and took Louis and Brielle to the airport and then I took Grandma to her hotel. The weekend was almost over and that was sad.

[Grandpa helping with Monday morning breakfast.]

Grandma and Grandpa left about noon on Monday and the fun filled dance recital weekend was officially over.

[My other favorite thing that grandma does, fold my socks. Her and grandpa folded my laundry the first day they got here. Wow! That was huge for me. I really am lucky. Did I mention that?? :o)]

Thanks everyone for coming. It was very fun and we appreciated the sacrifice. We’ll see you again in a couple of weeks in Utah.
