CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

It’s been 10 Days

on January 22, 2011

So on Monday January 10, Keri spent a good part of the day tugging at her diaper and not being happy. So on Tuesday morning when that same routine started, I just took her diaper off. I knew I needed to potty train her but was very hesitant because I didn’t want to do a lot of scrubbing and it’s been cold so I didn’t want her running around in panties getting cold. But she forced me into it and what a glorious 10 days it’s been.

Do any of you realize that I have been changing diapers every day of my life for the last 11.5 years??? Not once did we have a break where one child was potty trained and the next child hadn’t come yet. No complaints, just an “AHA” moment! But you know what, it’s been an easy change. I thought it would be weird and I might feel sad or something. NOPE! I LOVE IT. The exciting part?? She was so EASY to train!

She didn’t go potty once on Tuesday. On Wednesday she finally made it to the toilet about noon and hasn’t had an accident since. She’s woken up dry 3 nights in a row and so tonight we put her to bed with no pull up on. We’ll see what tonight brings. But she has been waking me up in the night to go potty. So I’m not worried about it.

But in preparation for perhaps an exciting night, we took one side of her crib off. Easier to get on and off and easier clean up if necessary! Now I can’t wait to rid my house of diapers and pull ups! Yay for me! Only panties in this house for the next umpteen years.

Wanna know the best part about this whole potty training thing? It’s when Keri walks into the bathroom while I am going and says ‘Mommy pee?’ and I say ‘Yes.’ and she says ‘Good girl Mommy! Good Girl!’ (in her cute 2 year old voice!)

Continuing on the Keri front…..she is so fun and cute. She is starting to do more mischievous things, but for the most part she is so fun. She is getting really good at her talking. She LOVES to dance and LOVES to dress herself. That has been an interesting endeavor but they all have to have their independence right?

[She has to wear some kind of dress up clothes. Since it’s too cold to just be in dress up clothes, she puts the dress up clothes over her regular clothes.]

[Notice, same shirt, inside out…. She wanted to wear this shirt for like 3 days in a row. Finally “lost” the shirt!]

[Giving her baby a shoulder ride!]

I was JUST thinking about you and potty training and how many diapers you must have changed in your life and how you must be ready to be done with that “soon,” but I never thought “soon” would be NOW. I am SO JEALOUS!! We just started another go at trying to potty train Maya at night about 10 days ago. I am so kicking myself in the butt for not just biting the bullet when she potty trained herself during the day 1 1/2 years ago (at the same age Keri is now) and would wake up at night too. Instead I retrained her to ignore her signals! Maybe Drew will be ready in 3 months when he is almost exactly 2 1/2 too! That would be awesome. I’ll take anytime before our anniversary trip in October though!

    Good job Keri!

  2. Wow, that is so exciting for you! My (just-turned) 4 year old is having issues with potty training and I am just hoping he’s got it figured it out before May when we add another diaper wearer!

Maybe she can show Noah a few tricks this weekend!
