CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Christmas morning

on January 11, 2011

I love Christmas day! My favorite thing about Christmas day is that time does not matter for this one day. We sleep in, we casually go downstairs and we lounge the rest of the day. We make no appointments and we don’t fuss over the meals. It’s a perfect day.

The kids already know they can’t come anywhere near our room before 6am. And since Christmas Eve can be late for them, it’s usually no problem. Once the first couple of kids come trickling in, we turn on Christ centered movies and watch them till everyone has woken up. Then we watch Joy to The World, read the Christmas story out of the Bible, and then have family prayer.

[Watching Mr. Kruger’s Christmas. We love that movie!]

This year I made everyone a new pair of pajamas. My good friend Tiesha called me early in the month and said she had a TON of flannel that she wanted to either use or get rid of and did I want to learn to make p.j.’s. I was all over that and went to her house everyday for about 2 hours and we made p.j.’s for everyone. Including a pair of p.j. bottoms for Scott and p.j.’s for the neighbor girls. We let everyone open their p.j.’s on my birthday because on Christmas eve it would have been weird to open p.j.’s at someone else’s house and I wanted them to wear their p.j.’s on Christmas morning. Anyway….since we knew that Grandma Thompson had gotten slippers for all the kids, we opted to let them open their slippers upstairs before coming downstairs so they could wear their p.j.’s and slippers all morning (or day for that matter!!)

[Opening the slippers]

[So cute in their p.j.’s and slippers]

[Auntie Sara and Alix match. How cute!]

[Lining up for the march downstairs to see the loot]

Our kids always go to the table and open their stockings first. Inside their stockings is everything they need to have breakfast so they are a little happier during present opening. They LOVE this because they get fun stuff they don’t normally get.

[Making a b-line for the stockings!]

[Keri really enjoyed the stocking thing this year. It was so cute to see her so excited!]

The kids got two things different this year. They all got their own box of cereal and their own ice cream (except for Milo who got a box of Twinkies because he does not like ice cream!).

To get the ice cream they found a slip of paper in their stocking that said: I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. But if you don’t scream too loud, but instead look around, there might be a treat to be found. Hint: Look in the outside freezer.

Jaime was the first to get it. She ran out and was SO excited!!

After eating good food, talking and joking and enjoying each other’s company, we headed to the tree. At this point it was 9am. I think that is the latest we have ever started present opening, but the kids didn’t seem to care. They had been enjoying the morning so much!
