CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Sami’s 33

on December 27, 2010

4 years ago I freaked out for a whole year about going into my 30’s. All my fears were going to come true….I was now going to be “old” to all people in their 20’s and younger. AHHHH!! But here I am 33 and it’s old hat now. Turning 33 seemed the same as turning 23. But I’m a bit older and wiser now, so that makes a big difference.

About 2 months ago I informed Scott that if he did nothing else for my birthday, I wanted him to take the day off and then give me a day off. He asked me where I wanted to go. I told him nowhere, I wanted HIM to go. He wondered where exactly he was suppose to go. I informed him we had 2 different zoo memberships and either one would take up an entire day.

About a week before my birthday it was raining pretty bad and it looked as though it would rain on my birthday too. I asked Scott what he was going to do. He was blank but I assured him he’d think of something. The night before my birthday as the rain poured down, I started to get a little discouraged. Perhaps my day alone at home was not really going to become a reality.

The kids came in early as usual. I snuck out and went back to sleep on the spare bed. About an hour or so later my family walked in with breakfast in bed singing happy birthday. When I opened the blinds all I could see was blue sky and sunshine. I smiled at Scott and asked him which zoo he was going too!

Scott and the kids left at 10am. I sat down at the computer and started learning the software to make a blog book. That’s what I wanted to do for my birthday. For 2 years I’ve wanted to make a blog book but just never had one block of time to work on it. So that is what I did from 10-3. I finished 5 1/2 months of 2008. I was so excited and got pretty fast toward the end. I think the rest of the year will go faster. At 3 I left and donated blood. Did some last minute Christmas shopping and then picked up dinner. Scott got home about 4pm and he and the kids started cleaning.

We finished up the cleaning before the neighbors came over for Chinese food and homemade carrot cake. Scott stayed up the night before shredding carrots and making the cake and the frosting. What a saint! And the cake was SOOOOO good! Thanks babe!

After dinner and cake we opened presents. Roberta got me my annual fuzzie pajama pants and Scott got me roller skates! Seems weird I know, but I actually love roller skating and did it quite extensively as a child. It was a very thoughtful gift and I’m excited to try them out (after we exchange them for the right size….) :o)

All in all it was a wonderful birthday. My family is amazing and I’m so lucky to have them. It was refreshing to spend some time alone, but it was also so nice to see them again!! I’m still trying to figure out how I will find time to finish my blog book before my next birthday. But I’m sure I can squeeze it in now that I’ve learned the software!

Yeah!! You’re birthday wish came true! Sounds like a perfect birthday. I might take your lead next year and request the day alone. ;) We’ll have to talk about blog books because I want to do one also.
