CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

More December Fun

on December 25, 2010

I had the wonderful opportunity to watch lots of kids this month so that their parents could go to their company parties. I really did enjoy the feeling that came with making others happy and being able to give service. Isn’t that what this month is truly all about? Giving of ourselves as Christ gave of himself?

A sister in our ward who is a VERY talented ballet teacher, approached temple hill about putting on a production of the Nutcracker so all who wanted could see it this holiday season without having to pay. Rachel Tan truly gave my family the opportunity of a lifetime.

Since Niah had already seen it this year with Emilie and Afton and Keri were a little young to sit that long, we left the three youngest with the Eyre’s and we took the 3 oldest to the Friday, December 17 performance. The last time I saw the Nutcracker I was about 8 years old and I went with my girl scout troop. Since that was so long ago I didn’t remember the ballet or even the storyline. So when the curtains opened till they closed, I was on the edge of my seat and enjoyed every moment of it. I also had a good time spotting the people on stage that I knew. Milo’s good friend Toby was in it. Jaime’s friend Miranda was in it (she is also Rachel’s daughter). There were many adults we knew that were in the party scene.

During the intermission an older Chinese lady from our ward approached me and expressed her concern about driving home in the dark with the rain and asked if I could drive her and her mom home. I agreed and so it took us a little longer to get home than usual, but it was so nice to talk with Nancy. We don’t usually get to and that was an enjoyable experience.

[Thompson’s, Toh’s and Toby being Nutcrackers!!]

On Monday December 20 we had the Eyre’s over for dinner and FHE and candy house making. It was SO much fun. The Eyre’s are a fun family and our children have such a good time together. After having fry bread with Grandma Thompson and then with Uncle Louis, I decided I needed to make some. It turned out SO GOOD! Apparently Adam loved the stuff as a kid and hadn’t had it for some time. Very fun evening. The kids had fun. The adults had fun. Everyone was happy.

Thanks Adam for keeping the kids happy after we hyped them up on sugar and then ran around like crazy people till you started reading to them!
