CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Final Brawley Fun

on December 1, 2010

Sunday November 13 was a truly relaxing day. We went to church and all the kids went to their classes and seemed to enjoy them. Scott and I got to attend Sunday school together and Scott’s mom is the teacher. It was fun to see her teach and it was nice to be having an adult lesson after such a long time. R.S. was really nice too. The rest of the afternoon was spent just hanging out and watching movies and enjoying each other’s company.

Monday morning came early as it usually does when we visit grandma and grandpa. The kids are so excited to see them each morning they wake up with the first signs of life. But it usually proves to be a good thing. Niah got to help grandma make breakfast. I got up early to make a couple of returns that I didn’t want to be forgotten.

Today was our last day of fun. Grandma and grandpa know of this place in the middle of the dessert that has a fun tower to climb and look over the valley and then some pretty cool rock formations to climb on and around. It sounded fun to us so we planned on going Monday morning. Even grandpa got the time off of work to come with us.

When we get there, the guy running the place boasts about all the attractions he has to offer. For the low price of $3 you get to climb the tower steps and climb all over the cool rock formations. So we pay the price and start our fun morning of climbing and exploring.

First the tower:

Then the rocks:

After an hour or so of climbing all over, around, under and through these amazing rock structures, we took a little rest before venturing up the path to the desert springs.

After 2.5 hours we left so grandpa could get back to work, he was only able to take half day off. But what fun times we had! We took a little detour getting home and got to see a sheet rock making plant. That was actually pretty interesting.

After a lunch of more yummy leftovers, grandpa went to work and the kids and I went swimming one last time. Still just as cold, but more fun. After a morning of hiking around we enjoyed the coolness of the water.

After drying off and taking showers we helped grandma with dinner. I’m bummed this is the only picture I took of all the yummy food grandma made for us. She’s an amazing cook and we were lucky that she was so willing to cook for us!

After dinner we finished up all the laundry, packed all of our bags and the car. We were scheduled to get up super early and I didn’t want to be up all night. We had the car packed and kids in bed on time. However, I opted to stay up and watch the movie with everyone else. BAD move! I was so tired the next day!

We left bright and early Tuesday morning and made pretty good time. We stopped just after Buttonwillow and got gas and fed the kids. They had a good time getting big rigs to honk at them.

We made it the rest of the way uneventful. That was good. We got home in enough time for Niah to go to dance class and for Jaime and Alix to attend activity days. I was so tired I feel asleep at 7:30pm and didn’t wake up till the next morning. I guess I’m getting too old for late nights and early mornings!

What a GREAT trip. Thanks grandma and grandpa for making it so fun. And thanks kids for no fighting, constant obedience and all the help you provided in cleaning up! I have AMAZING kids!
