Saturday, July 26, was the big day and I wanted to make sure things ran as smoothly as possible. I got up at 5:30 am and showered first. Then I got Scott up at 6 am and he showered. By then the kids started waking up and we started showering them. Mandi was up and fighting for bathroom space by 7 am. We were suppose to leave by 8 am for a Pioneer day breakfast with my mom’s ward, but of course life does not happen that way! As the time approached for us to leave, Keri decided she wanted to eat and get a diaper change and eat again. We finally made it out the door and to the breakfast by 8:30am. Just like any good church gathering, breakfast wasn’t actually served till 9 am so we were good. Mom and Dad Thompson joined us for the feast. It was good food and good company and we really enjoyed ourselves. By 10:00 am we left the party to go back to my mom’s to prepare for the blessing. We arrived in a whirlwind and got everyone changed into church clothes. Things ran rather smoothly considering all the things that could go wrong when trying to perform a priesthood ordinance. Scott conducted, Grandpa Thompson gave a spiritual thought, Grandma Ackerman and Auntie Sara offered prayers, the kids sang a song and Scott performed the name and blessing. Grandma Ackerman invited a couple from her ward to come and participate. Melissa, the wife, goes to their house once a week and helps them keep things in order. Her and her husband are very kind and I was glad they could be there with us. It was a rather spiritual 30 minutes and an experience I shall not forget. It was very intimate and nice and definitely filled with the spirit. As soon as the blessing was complete and I got my zillion pictures, everyone changed and we ate a nice lunch of sandwiches, pasta salad and watermelon We washed it all down with left over chocolate cake and Grandma Thompson cookies. After we all stuffed ourselves everyone started saying their goodbyes. The hardest goodbye was to Grandma and Grandpa Thompson, it just hadn’t been long enough. Lucky for us, Grandpa left his shoes and scriptures and they had to come back. We got to see them for another 3 minutes!! :0) We spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up our mess that we made at Grandma Ackerman’s. The kids got to play with grandma and Auntie Sara a little bit more and even got one more round in the swimming pool. It was VERY hard to say goodbye and actually pile in the car and leave, but we had to. We pulled out about 9pm. We lost the kids to slumber land pretty fast and we adults talked for a little while. Eventually Mandi and I lost Scott too (I guess our conversation was a little boring….). We made it home by 11:45. After putting all the kids to bed, unloading the car and trying to go to bed, we got too distracted by a box that Grandma Thompson gave to Scott. It was full of all his letters he received or wrote while on his mission. It was “fun” to read letters from random girls that he claims he doesn’t remember…. :0) By 2:30am we realized the responsible thing to do was to go to bed. We had another early morning and needed to be rested. All in all, it was a great day and we were glad that we made the decision to have the blessing at Grandma Ackerman’s. Thank you to everyone who came and participated. We love you all.
