CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Brawley #3

on November 29, 2010

Saturday November 13 was the big day. The day we had really gone for. The day of the Cattle Call parade and Rodeo. We were all so excited and we weren’t let down!

We got to the parade early too. We had to if we wanted seats in the shade. We ended up opting for a nice spot and just put up the umbrellas. It worked very nicely. So what do you do with kids for an hour while they wait for the parade to start? Ours ran back and forth across the street. It kept them busy and tired them out a bit too!

At one point Keri decided she should be the only one running back and forth and so if any of her siblings decided to run, she’d escort them back to the sidewalk. It was super funny. It was great entertainment for all. And, just in case you noticed, she did not have a leaky diaper. That’s what happens when you hand a full water bottle to a 2 year old. Luckily it was warm enough outside that her shorts dried by the time the parade started.

Ok, so this was my favorite entry in the parade. Why? Because here in the Bay Area I feel that it’s almost shameful that I eat meat. I have TONS of amazing friends who don’t eat meat and I think that’s great for them. But for me I enjoy it. I don’t eat it everyday and I try to eat it sparingly like the word of wisdom advises, but it’s a touchy topic here and it was just refreshing to be reminded that people still eat meat besides me!!

This was really fun to see too. These old guys were super cool in their little cars.

After the parade we dashed home for a quick lunch of left overs, put Keri for nap and then headed to the Rodeo. Grandma lovingly opted to stay home with the little kids so the rest of us could have a more enjoyable time. Once again we got there about an hour early but they had some fun pre-show performances that were fun to watch. They also had some country music blaring some songs I haven’t heard since I was in high school.

My other favorite thing about the rodeo, well, the whole weekend for that matter, was the amount of patriotism that was shown. We get so caught up in what’s fair and what’s not and we seem to forget the simple things. Things such as men and women who fought for our rights and the right to say things aren’t fair. We seem to forget that the rights laid out in the constitution are for everyone, not just ourselves and our own desires. We seem to forget that God and his laws and ways were the basis for this great nation. I really felt all that was NOT forgotten this weekend in Brawley. Such a refreshing change from what we normally hear and are bombarded with.

[Notice the Texan flag? These ladies were from Texas and they were trick riders. They were pretty good!]

My favorite thing at the rodeo was the team penning. A team of 3 cowboys or girls have to pick off 3 cows from a herd and get them into a pen. They get 75 seconds. It was so intense to watch. I LOVED it!

[These are the trick riders. They were very cool. See the girl on the left? She’s 12. She can ride a horse upside down hanging off the side. Truly amazing!]

After getting some pictures and signatures with the trick rider girls we left. We got home just in time to enjoy a yummy dinner of navajo tacos. It was FABULOUS!! So good in fact that I ate way too many and forced Scott to go on a walk with me. I did feel so much better after that!

The kids slept so good that night. We had had such a busy day that I think they were glad to get to bed. Some of us stayed up and watched a John Wayne movie. That was relaxing. Fun times. It was so worth it. Only two days to go. Bummer! But we decided we wouldn’t waste a day.

Who’da thunk you were a cowgirl at heart? I always thought you were the definition of a city girl!
