CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Brawley #2

on November 28, 2010

Friday November 12 was our first day in Brawley and it started with the kids admiring the pool. They knew that grandma and grandpa had gotten it ready for them so they were super excited. But just as all pools are, it required a little more work before it would be ready. Surprisingly, they were VERY eager to help!

[I got in on the action too!]

Once he had the children anxiously engaged in some productive activity, Scott figured it was his turn. He really wanted to do some project for his mom. So he decided to change out her kitchen sink and faucet. Apparently it was the same sink and faucet that was in the house when the moved in 20 years ago. The sink was only 6 inches deep. Can you image??

As all projects go, it took a little longer than expected and had some hiccups along the way, but all in all the project was a HUGE success and his mom was so pleased she volunteered to do dishes constantly (well, she always did that anyway!).

[All done! Too bad we didn’t have a before picture]

While Scott and Milo worked on the sink, the girls and I finished the pool, got dressed and went to the park and to pet the horses at the farm next to the park. Fun times. Keri and Grandma really bonded at the park. Jaime and Alix played together at the park, something that happens less and less these days.

[Keri enjoyed the see saw a lot. It was hard though because you couldn’t sit at the other end because we were all too heavy. So we had to control it with our arms. Talk about a work out!!]

After we got home we swam. It was hot enough outside but the water in the pool was quite chilly! We swam for about 20 minutes before the kids’ lips turned purple. I on the other hand was sweating! Swimming in a pool is quite the workout for me whatever the temperature!

Because we are at grandma’s house, we had to have a Popsicle after swimming. But they were so good!

After an afternoon of games, puzzles and showers, grandpa came home with pizza for dinner. After dinner, grandpa took Scott, Jaime, Alix, Milo and I to the football game at the high school. Now you have to understand what this means. This was the Bell Game. Apparently there is this rivalry against Brawley and El Centro and it’s a HUGE part of football season for both towns. So grandpa made sure we got there 2 hours early. We still didn’t find seats. We ended up standing for those two hours waiting for the game to start and then another 2 hours while we watched the game. Grandpa and Alix went home after it became apparent that we would have to stand. But it was worth it. The energy at the game was amazing and Brawley creamed them 41-21. Tons of fun.

[Scott sporting his letterman jacket. Jaime had a good time, her feet just hurt at this point!]

After the game we got home and then Scott and I went out to Wal Mart. We decided that having all this fun with no camera was not the way to have a vacation. We were happy to find a camera we liked and within the price we were willing to pay. It made for a late night, but worth it. Thanks grandma for letting us use your camera for the first day!

Sami, you look great! I almost thought that picture of you working on the pool was Jaime!! Sounds like a good time. I have a letterman’s jacket too, but I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing it in my hometown (I got pride, huh?). Go Scott– I mean Brawley! ;-)
