CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Monterey Bay

on November 21, 2010

I love Monterey Bay. I think it’s beautiful. I think the aquarium is fascinating and I think the atmosphere is peaceful. Unfortunately, due to car sick kids we don’t get there very often. But once a year they offer a free homeschooling day at the aquarium and so we make a day of it. The last two years my friend Laura has carpooled with us and that adds a whole new element of fun.

[Not to offend but I think everyone has their image of ‘a homeschooled family’. For whatever reason when I look at this picture I think it has ‘I’m homeschooled’ written all over it. Here’s to homeschooling!]

On Monday November 1 we all piled into the van and headed to Monterey. We got there about 11am and had a blast for the next 5 hours. We spent more time this time trying to catch the shows and feeding times. I was glad we did. It adds an element you just don’t get from looking around on your own.

[Making sharks out of toilet paper rolls]

[Playing on a whale with friends Kyle and Dylan]

[The touch pools. The kids love this because they get to touch!]

[We have a picture in this same shell with only 3 young kids….]

After the aquarium we made our annual trip to the Denis the Menace park. Still the greatest park ever in my opinion. This year they had a slide that was a rolling conveyor belt. Very cool in my opinion. We stayed there till it was too dark to be safe. We loaded in the van and listened to the final game of the World Series on our way home. It was fun to hear the final game of the series and it was even more awesome that it resulted in the Giants winning. We pulled in the driveway about 8pm. Everyone was tired but it was so worth it and we had such a GREAT time.

Looks like a super fun annual trip! I’m sure you are already aware of this, but you are in danger of disappearing into your bunch of kids. Jaime and Alix are getting so tall!!
