CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Feast or Famine

on September 12, 2010

I’ve decided to rename my blog to Feast or Famine. That seems to be the trend this year. So here we are at a feast. Enjoy while you can for our lives are once again going to explode into a flurry of activity and being able to post will again cease…..

To pick up where the last post ended would be life after the death of my mom. In the midst of all this peace/turmoil/grief/rejoicing/reuniting/faith building…. we get a call from the stake president. Our ward has been humming about the fact that our bishop had been in for some time and perhaps the time was coming for a new bishop. We had only starting humming about his because for the last 3 months a member of the stake presidency has been in our ward every Sunday. So when we got the call we were not surprised. We have one of those wards that if you change one thing, you have to change many things.

July 26, the Monday before our Tuesday appointment, we had dinner and swimming with our wonderful friends the Hansen’s. We appreciated their hospitality and enjoyed getting out and seeing our friends again. One of the men there is on the high counsel. He was teasing Scott that they were looking for a seminary teacher. Scott sweated bullets for a whole 24 hours thinking that the seminary teacher calling was coming to him and the thought of getting up every morning at 5am started to wear on his mind.

[Scott proving his manhood….]

However, he was not extended the call to teach seminary. My wonderful, spiritual, inspiring, humble husband was called as the 1st counselor in the bishopric. What a perfect calling for him. This call was definitely inspired by the Lord and made possible by the faith of many.

Scott called his dad right away and his dad made the trip up here again to ordain Scott to the office of a High Priest in the priesthood. Scott’s dad came late Friday night and helped out Saturday morning with chores. He helped Scott rebuild the boxes around the trees outside and even scrubbed floors on his hands and knees with the kids. What a GREAT grandpa he is.

Sunday August 1 Scott was sustained in Sacrament meeting and set apart that afternoon. Since then we have had a mighty change of heart around here. With Scott gone a little more than usual all the kids, especially Jaime and Alix, have stepped up to the plate and have been really helpful. Because of the example we feel we should be, we have been striving to be better in all aspects of life, but most importantly on the way we treat each other and the spirit within our home. It has made a tremendous difference.

Sunday mornings are fine. My kids are good with getting up and getting ready and that has not been an issue at all. Sacrament meetings have been good too. I think the kids sense the greater importance of reference because I am by myself and they understand the burden that can be. I think it’s been almost easier since Scott has been called. I feel that this is a blessing from our Heavenly Father because of our willingness to serve Him.

Well we’ve told you already, but we are sure Scott is perfect for the calling. He is the definition of dedicated! As is your whole family!!
