CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Swimming

on July 10, 2010

Our kids all love to swim. Even Milo, who is a bit timid in the pool, still looks forward to out swim dates with friends. So we were VERY excited when we got an invite to swim with our friends, the Kohn’s. So on Wednesday June 30 we had a fun afternoon swimming and talking and enjoying being together.

Niah was especially excited because I told her she was old enough this year to take off her swim jacket and try to swim all by herself. She is tall enough and can reach the bottom and now she can get more comfortable with being in the water. So when we got there Niah and I did “swim lessons”. She did FABULOUS. After a few minutes she said she needed a break. I got out of the pool and told her to practice her stuff. Dylan told her he’d show her some things he knew about swimming. The next thing I know Niah says ‘Mom, watch me do a cannon ball’. That girl can cannon ball!!

She reminds me a lot of Jaime at this age. Jaime was our fish. We couldn’t get her out of the pool for noth’n. I learned early on that I had to make Jaime get out and have something to eat and drink and more sunblock. Now I have to do that with Niah too. She just swam and swam and swam. The first one in and the last one out. She was so tired by the time we left and her eyes were bloodshot!

All the other kids did great too. Milo went in without a swim jacket and did some good swimming too. Afton still loves the inner tube and even Keri got wet and didn’t seem to mind. Too bad we don’t have access to a pool more often. I’d love one in the backyard some day!!

We’ve been spending quite a bit of time in the water too, but I do not like swimming with more than one little one who doesn’t know how to swim and can drown easily!
