CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

First Beach Trip 2010

on July 4, 2010

With all the changes our family is going to undergo here pretty soon (my mom coming to live with us) we realized that there were some things we had better do in case the opportunity didn’t come around again. Going to the beach was one of those activities. Last year we ended up going once a week. I know we won’t go that often but I hope we get to go at least one more time before summer is over.

[Keri LOVED the sand!]

On Monday June 28 we went to our favorite beach, Rio Del Mar, with one of our favorite families, the Bennett’s. It was a bit overcast but we were sure it would blow off. The river that usually runs through the middle of the beach ran across part of the beach, took a turn and then headed into the ocean. It created a mini rapids that the kids used boogie boards on and thought they were the coolest!

[Katie and Jaime tak’n a break]

Lucky for us Katie Grant came with us and brought two boogie boards with her and so my kids were able to join all the random kids on the beach in the boogie board fun.

[Alix loves to make big holes in the sand to bury herself in!]

[Keri the ham!]

After a fun afternoon in the ocean and sand castle building, we changed clothes and enjoyed an evening on the beach. We roasted hot dogs over the fire. The adults played Kubb while the kids played in the sand some more.

[Afton and Sydney had a lively conversation about something or other.]

[More sand digging!]

[So much love!!]

We had a great time roasting marshmallows and telling jokes till about 10pm. We then cleaned and loaded up. We were home by midnight. We were glad that Katie Grant and Joseph Dalrymple could come with us. Jaime and Milo enjoyed that very much. Unfortunately I feel victim to the ‘it’s overcast, I should be fine’ mentality that sometimes plagues those of us that go to the beach. Needless to say, I’ve been nursing a sunburn for almost a week now. I’m to the itching stage. I feel like I want to crawl out of my skin most of the time. O’well, it was fun anyway!

Sounds like fun! I have a small sunburn too so I can empathize. Hey, post more pictures of Milo– it looks like he’s changed even more since his surgery but I can’t quite tell…
