Ever rented a truck from Uhaul? We have, MANY times. Mostly to move other people but we’ve gotten one for ourselves too. Is it just me, or do only the truly lucky get a “good” Uhaul? We somehow get “lucky” and get the sleaziest one on the lot. I had determined that this time we wouldn’t. I was done renting Uhauls that had the potential of catching on fire or breaking down.
Anyway, we spent Saturday June 12 in Fresno packing up my mom’s apartment and bringing it here to Fremont. That required us to rent a middle of the road sized Uhaul to load the stuff into. As we searched for the Uhaul place the part of town got more and more questionable. I so wish I had my camera with me!! As we drove into the parking lot the first truck we saw had so much graffiti on it, we weren’t sure if it was a Uhaul or not. The outside of the store was wall to wall gates/cages and no one was there. The person to open up the store did not arrive until 15 minutes late and she apologized saying most of the staff (who all happened to be part of the family) were at a party that night and proceeded to go into detail about the party. Ok, so this was not looking good and I was having visions of being stuck on the 152 with lots of stuff and a broken Uhaul. Got a visual yet?

Much to our surprise, the staff was extremely helpful. We got almost a brand new Uhual (whew!) and even got an extra day and more miles for no extra charge. It was one of the nicest Uhauls I have ever seen. I take back all my first judgments about this place. I even gave them an excellent rating on the Uhaul website! In everything we do, it’s true that looks can sometimes be deceiving.
