CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

New Experience

on May 30, 2010

So Scott took on a new project at work that requires him to travel a bit. His first traveling happened the same week that Milo was having his surgery. It worked out fine though because he was just in S.F. and could come to the hospital if needed. So it didn’t really affect life much. However, over the past 6 weeks he’s been gone 3 weeks. Grant it he wasn’t too far, but due to the nature of things he wasn’t able to come home each night.

I learned three very important things those three weeks.

1) Scott was missed A LOT! The kids seemed to misbehave more and tended to be more withdrawn. Hence reiterating the fact that both the mother and father are needed in the home for the children to truly be happy and successful.

2) I am too independent. Since I knew he was not coming home I was mentally prepared to handle the week and, for me, the week went well. Too well in fact. When Scott got back there was definitely a transition period we had to go through.

3) The “extra” money doesn’t go far. Not sure what the hype is about overtime pay but I haven’t seen a difference at all. Yes, the pay check says there is extra money, but I sure haven’t seen any of it! It’s amazing how someone can live on a certain amount of money and when there is an increase all of a sudden what they could live on before is no longer sufficient. I realize that that is an indication of poor money management which is definitely the problem here!!

I guess I now know what my new goal is…..learn to manage money. I mean really manage money. There is a difference between saving money and managing money I have learned. I have to say I’ve been blessed with the ability to save money, but I don’t have a gift for managing money. I hope to gain that gift sooner than later and therefore be able to help my family be more self sufficient and be in a better place financially.
