CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Milo is 7

on April 19, 2010

On March 21 2010 our “little” guy turned the big 7! Here are my 7 favorite things about Milo (in no particular order of course!):

1- Milo is so brave! The thing forefront in my mind about Milo is how brave he is during his medical procedures and doctor appointments. He isn’t afraid of a needle, or a poke or going to sleep or anything. What a great example he is to me. He reminds me so much of Joseph Smith’s childhood story about getting bone cut out of his leg and brave how Joseph was.

[Milo wanted a shark cake for his birthday. After much debate I decided that instead of making the whole cake in the shape of a shark I’d make the shark on the cake. Although, Milo was very clear about his cake not being a whole ocean scene, just a shark!]

2- Milo is “all boy”. He doesn’t mess around with gender identity. He is surrounded by females 90% of his life and yet has never once showed signs of wondering who he is! He knows he’s a boy. He acts like a boy. He enjoys have other boys around to do stupid boy things with. And he enjoys tormenting his sisters unmercifully. He told his Grandma Ackerman just recently that the reason he torments his mom so much (and YES he torments me A TON) is because he loves me so much. He said ‘If I didn’t love her I wouldn’t torment her’. I love this BOY!!

[Fill’n in the shark!]

3- Milo is a GREAT big/little brother. He is very good to his sisters. He torments them at times but for the most part he plays with them and includes them in his games and imagination.

[All done!! Whew! That was a lot of fill in and my hand was bit tired toward the end.]

4- Milo is good at sharing. Since he is the only boy he has the market on boy toys in this house. Being the rare thing in this household, boy toys are fascinating and eye catching. So the girls are CONSTANTLY wanting Milo to give up his toys so they can play with them. He is VERY good about letting the girls play and not getting annoyed by it.

[After teasing Milo earlier that morning about forgetting to make his cake, he was VERY excited when he did finally come downstairs and see the cake all done!]

5- Milo is in tune with the spirit. He really enjoys praying, reading his scriptures, attending primary and Family Home Evening. He is always willing to share with his friends the things he knows to be true. He is so excited to be a missionary one day and talks about it all the time. He will be a good one!!

[Milo wanted to have breakfast for dinner. I love that meal. We usually make a ton and just gorge ourselves!]

6- Milo is always so willing to help. He’s not quite as happy to help around the house, although he does a FABULOUS job. But give him an outside activity and you’ll keep him busy for hours! He is a very focused young man and will get the job done. He is inventive on how he will get the job done and is a good helper. Scott loves to have his right hand man there will him all the time.

[Milo’s birthday dinner was our first meal on the new table. Jaime set the table fancy with the new dishes Grandma and Grandpa Thompson gave us. It was a fun meal! And boy did the lazy susan come in handy.]

7- Milo is very smart. He catches on to a new concept very quickly. He is really good with math and reading. His phonics skills are very good. Much better than I would have expected since he has had a sporadic school year with all his doctor appointments and such. He continues to amaze me each day with what he already knows.

[I’m telling you, that meal was so yummy!!]

We are so glad that Milo is part of our family. His smile, laughter and love of the Savior blesses our lives each and everyday! Thanks buddy for coming to this chaos and adding so much to our lives.

[Look at all that loot! It pays to have lots of siblings I guess…. There is the mystery package on the table too. Hmmm, I wonder where it came from??]

[See the A’s shirt?? That’s the mystery present. I was out kinda late on Saturday night and when I came home it was on the doorstep. It just said ‘To Milo a very special boy’. I just assumed it was from our neighbors but they don’t take credit for it. Now Milo has this VERY cool A’s shirt that he can wear to all the games we are going to go to this year. Thanks mystery person. You really helped make my son’s birthday special!]

[See the red fish by the sharks mouth? I guess the shark was suppose to have his mouth open and eating a fish. I forgot that part so we just threw a swedish fish on there. He seemed satisfied with that! Such a boy, I’m telling you!]

[We let Milo stay up late and put a stunt track together. This is what him and dad came up with. Pretty sweet if you ask me. The tricks that they were able to make were really fun. Ever since then Milo has been making tracks and tricks all over the house and he comes up with some REALLY cool ones!]

any time milo needs boy time, send him here. We always get your girls, but very little time with him! We need a milo day. And duh…of course the shark is supposed to be eating something. That is why sharks are cool. If you had more boys you’d know. And watch out…my experience is that the boy stuff intensifies in ages 7 and 8. Kyle is finally starting to mellow a little.
