CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Roller Skating

on March 28, 2010

Anyone like roller skating? I sure do. It was the one “thing” I did as a kid. I don’t remember how long I skated for. I just remember it was long enough to get pretty good and do a performance and get injured and never go out again. But I have always loved it and have done it several times just for fun.

On March 1 we went on a homeschooling outing to the local skating rink. I hadn’t been for a while and wasn’t sure how it would go, but I did great (sorry to be so blunt, but man it was fun!). I was able to go pretty fast and even crouch down on my knees. I was having a blast. Jaime caught on pretty quick and breezed around the rink like she knew what she was doing. Alix had LOTS of falls and bruises by the time the event was over but had fun regardless. Niah did pretty good as long as I was holding her hand. Then these two sisters offered to skate with Niah around the rink. It was so nice of them. They were 13 and 15 and just super nice. They just moved here from Texas. Niah feel in love with them instantly and they treated her with such kindness and love. I hope my girls are that generous and nice at that age. Those are hard ages and that was a stretch for them to help a little 5 year old girl for an hour. Milo, Afton and Keri played at the Bennett’s house.

After we left I asked Jaime ‘So, Jaime, you think your mom is a pretty good skater?’ (I’m smiling and beaming and waiting for a great compliment). Jaime, rolling her eyes, ‘Mom you were just showing off!’. AHHHH, my 10 year old thinks I’m a show off. I was crushed. But then she admitted I was ‘Alright I guess.’ Someday she’ll think I’m cool, right??

I am so not looking forward to my girls thinking I am not cool. I guess I should saver the younger years. I do remember the days when I thought my mom didn’t know what she was talking about, but now I realize she might know more than I thought.
