CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

High Hopes

on January 10, 2010

Well my high hopes for archiving all the fun we had a Christmas time got blown away with the duties of being a mom, school teacher, wife and church member! So here we are, 2.5 weeks after Christmas and, even though it seems like old news now, I will write about it.

Christmas Eve was spent doing one of our favorite traditions. We went to Brentwood to have a homemade pasta meal made by my great friend Erika. It is always SOOOO good and we are greeted by great people who are kind and loving and treat our children with great love and respect. Thanks guys for sharing your Christmas eve with us!!

We got home about 9pm. We got all the kiddies to bed and cleaned our room. Since Christmas morning convenes in our room, we figured it had to be clean!! So after an hour we had it in the best condition we could. Then we wrapped all of our presents. Had Santa visit and only had to make one quick trip to the store for some last minute batteries. All in all a very easy, fun night!

Christmas morning started out the same as it has every year since Milo was young. Everyone gathers in mom and dad’s room. At 7 am we turn on Mr. Krugers Christmas, followed by Joy to the World. Hopefully by then everyone is awake. We read Luke 2 and bear testimony of Christ’s birth. Then we have family prayer. After prayer, Scott goes and checks to see if Santa came. Then we line the kids up oldest to youngest and out they go to the living room. Here is what they got to see:

[She hadn’t figured out what all the fuss was yet! She just wanted more sleep I think!]

Since it was pretty late at this point the kids tore into their stockings where they knew they would find some yummy treats to have for breakfast. After scarfing down some semi-healthy fruit snacks and pop tarts (a once a year thing…..) we headed to the tree!

The kids each chose a spot. Keri decided it would be fun to be Scott’s helper in passing out presents. It was too cute. We’d tell her which sibling to give it to and she’d run over and give it to them and then run back. It was fun to watch her in action.

[Milo’s “big” gift! Boy was he happy!]

[Taylor Swift is now a regular at our house]

[Scott HATES the can opener we have been using for the last 2 years. So Jaime and I went in together and got him a new one. He LOVES it!! He is consistently asking, ‘Do you have a can to open?’ The other day I tried to use his new can opener. I don’t like it. Now we have 2 electric can openers on the counter. Who’d a thought??]

[Hugging her new stuffed dog that Niah got her. She LOVES it.]

[After going around trying to open up everyone else’s gifts, Keri was seated in her highchair till we were all done. She didn’t seem to mind though, as long as we kept giving gifts to her to open!]

[Niah LOVED her bank that Jaime got her. She painted it later in the afternoon and then walked around talking to it most of the day. It now happily sits on her dresser with a few coins in it.]

All in all the presents were a big hit for everyone. All the kids got new towels from Grandma and Grandpa Thompson. They have their names embroidered on them and the kids LOVE them. Afton and Niah got new scooters. Jaime and Alix got clip lamps for their beds so they can read for a little bit after they go to bed. I was there, but there doesn’t seem to be any pictures. I got new kitchen scissors and a new hair brush two things that I am constantly searching for. My family is so thoughtful!!

We spent the remainder of the day visiting with the neighbors, playing with our new toys, watching our new movies, lazying around and enjoying the time spent together as a family. We made a ham and cheesy potato dinner w/fresh rolls (thanks Scott!!).

It really was a fabulous day and I’m glad we had the time to reflect on Christ and be so giving and loving to all.
