CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Absent Minded Professor

on December 9, 2009

Did you ever see that old Disney Movie? From what I remember it was one of my favorites. I remember flubber with fondness. So when my friend Erika said that we should make flubber with the kids during the sleep over I was so excited.

But this particular stuff doesn’t make things fly. But it sure is fun to play with. If you leave it alone on a counter or in your hand it will act like a liquid. If you play with it, it acts like a solid. So fun!! Here is an example of what will happen if left on a counter:

FINALLY:

It took about an hour for the whole process. Pretty cool eh?

Are you just dying to make some now?? Here’s how:

What you need:
Water
2 cups Elmer’s white glue
Liquid water color (food coloring works too but can stain)
20 Mule Team Borax (available in the grocery store laundry sections)
White Vinegar (for cleaning)
Glitter (optional)

What to Do:
In a large container combine and mix:
-1 1/2 cups VERY warm water
-2 cups Elmer’s white glue
-A few drops of water color and/or glitter
Mix this combination thoroughly (with hands is the best!)

In small container combine and mix:
-1 1/3 cups very warm water
-2 level tsp 20 mule Team Borax
Mix this combination thoroughly

Use your hands to mix the contents of the small container into the large container
Lift and turn the mixture until it is fully combined. Discard any leftover liquid.

Notes:
-If kept in an airtight container, the Flubber will keep for up to two weeks.
-Keep the Flubber away from your carpet and hair, as it will stick! Use vinegar as a solvent
-This recipe makes enough flubber for six children.

and I haven’t seen that movie, but lately I feel like an absent minded professor. Too bad you know that already.

We made blue flubber a few years ago. I’m liking the pink. I keep a big box of borax for future flubber fun.
