Sami's World

CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

And no, I’m NOT pregnant

on October 23, 2009

So sickness has abounded in our home the last three weeks. It started with me and it may well end with me. Bummer!! In the last three weeks this is everything we have to account for (the people and sicknesses are in order of occurrence):

Sami: Strep throat/flu (quite a few people swear I have/had the swine flu. I think the swine flu is so over rated)

Scott: a pretty bad cold

Jaime: Flu/pink eye

Niah: cold/ear infection

Alix: irritable! No signs of anything but very cranky and she itches all over….

Milo: Only sick at 2 am (go figure). As long as we give him a dose of decongestant before he goes to bed, we all sleep more peacefully.

Afton and Keri: Healthy as horses and bored out of their minds!

Jaime, Niah, Alix and I seem to still have symptoms. Each of the children drink about 70 ounces of fluids a day and I’m drinking close to 120 ounces of fluids (it’s ok, we aren’t leaving the house and we have three bathrooms!!). Not sure what else to do. We are getting about 1000% vitamin C everyday and we are getting at least 15 minutes of sunlight (thank you gorgeous weather). The kids are required to wash their hands every 15 minutes and use hand sanitizer as often as they walk past it. I just finished washing all sheets and bedding today. Everyday this week we have wiped down all surfaces with Clorox wipes. Not sure there is anything else to do but let time take it’s course. Both Jaime and I have been on antibiotics but they prefer to let ear infections ride. We shall see how much more “riding” we can do before we insist on an antibiotic for Niah.

Since we have been sick for three weeks (Mon Oct 5, 09 till now, Fri Oct 23, 09) there isn’t much excitement to report. We’ve stayed home. Cancelled everything and when we can we do school. The healthy kids and I do the chores and they have gotten done most days (except for the ones that I could not get out of bed. I think a total of 7 now). I figure the cleaner the house the less likely it is to spread germs. Apparently I’m wrong because each night we go to bed praying another one will not wake up sick!

Thanks Scott for all you have shouldered. He had to plow through his sickness because I was much sicker than he. But he seems to be pulling through and says at this point he feels fine. Yay for him.

I hope this is our quota for the year! Although I’m pessimistic. After infecting half of California, Utah and Washington with the stomach flu in August I was sure we were off the hook for a while. I guess six weeks is a while…….

Here’s to good health……CHEERS!!
