CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Do you have some?

on October 12, 2009

Do you recognize that picture? Of course you do. It’s America’s favorite pastime for those under the age of 8. They can mold it, twist it, throw it, break it into a million different pieces. With all the accessories now they can make food with it, make plants, hair, anything. What a magical, wonderful invention. Probably found in all homes containing children.

Well folks I’m here to announce that we don’t have any in our home. I know what you are thinking. One too many play dough stains on the carpet? One too many play dough hair cuts (meaning real play dough got stuck in real hair)? It all dried out and I’m trying to teach my kids how to be responsible by not buying more? I’m sure you can think of a million reasons why we don’t have play dough anymore. But I bet you can’t think of the actual reason we don’t have play dough anymore.

This isn’t the first time I’ve written off play dough in this house. Nope, we were play dough free for a good 2 years until this last Christmas. I thought we might try the whole play dough route again. They had this great deal on a play dough set at Wal Mart. So I got it. The kids had a great time with it and I knew we had done the right thing. Then it started happening. I started to notice that each time we got the play dough out there was less and less play dough. I figured the kids just let it dry up or something. Well, a few weeks ago the kids went to get the play dough out and there was no play dough left. It happened that the same day I noticed an empty play dough carton in Alix’s room. Yep, it happened again. Alix ate all the play dough. Yes folks, Alix LOVES play dough. She LOVES to eat it. She doesn’t want to play with it or shape it or anything else, she wants to eat it. And apparently she had been taking play dough to bed with her and slowly eating it over the course of the last few months until…..it was all gone. So, once again we are a play doughless household. Probably always will be. Just can’t bring myself to buy anymore knowing it will only be used as a snack for my 8 year old.

I feed her, I swear!

    Ha! Too funny.

I have to say that I don’t much like playdough. I hate to be THAT kind of mom, but really, it is so messy! And my girls refuse to clean it up. So yes, we do HAVE playdough, but we rarely break it out.
