[Afton on the morning of her 3rd birthday. What a beauty.]
On September 7, Labor Day this year, Afton turned 3. She had been looking forward to her birthday for quite sometime and I think her birthday excitement has been satisfied for at least another 6 months. :0)
[Birthday breakfast of Crepes. YUM!!]
We started the morning off with some yummy breakfast. Then I got into cake decorating while the kids played. Afton had said she wanted a rainbow cake. I was not hopeful for my abilities in making a rainbow cake, but I put forth my best effort and I think it came out quite nice.
[Final product. See the “pot o’ gold”? Afton got to have that all her very own after we blew out the candles. Boy was she excited!]
After making the cake, we prepared for the rest of the day. Our newest friends, the Eyre’s, invited us over for a Labor Day bbq and we accepted the invite.
[The birthday girl swimming. She loves to swim.]
The kids had a GREAT time swimming (some of the adults too), playing and enjoying each other’s company. Us adults did the same thing.
[How did she learn to do that? I think Jaime was born to swim. She loves to dive and swim and practice till she gets it correct. All without ever having a swim lesson. Ok, so she took swim lessons once when she was two!]
[Niah is the next big swimmer in our family. Already at 4 she can swim across the pool, jump in and put her face in the water for about 10 seconds. Big accomplishments in my book!! She has always loved the water, but this year she has really soared with her abilities. Now if we could get that swim jacket off she’d be unstoppable!!]
[Alix is another water lover. She is VERY capable of so many things in the water. She can jump off, swim and have fun. If only we could get her hand off her nose, she too would be unstoppable.]
Then we had a yummy bbq dinner of hamburger, hotdogs and chicken with all kinds of sides.
We then had the biggest Family home evening I think I’ve ever had. It was soooo fun!! Each family was in charge of something different and that made it even nicer. After family home evening we had birthday cake and ice cream for dessert.
[Afton LOVED this cake and she enjoyed all the attention.]
Everyone sang to Afton and she thought that was pretty special. She ended her day with a big smile.
[She was soooo cute when she tried to blow out her candles.]
This is a wonderful time for Afton. After only a few weeks I can see a change in her already. She is so grown up. She uses such grown up words and she is trying so hard to be a good big sister. Afton enjoys her big siblings as well and they are a good example of what a good big sibling should be. I love Afton so much and I am so glad she is part of our family. Her smile is so contagious and when she talks in her big girl voice about big girl things, she makes my heart melt. She is so good to others and just loves to be free and happy. She loves to snuggle with her mom and dad and she can pound sweets like no other. That’s all she’d eat if we let her!!
[Of all the things she got, she thought this was the best part! She sat and ate EVERY single piece of candy out of her treasure chest.]
WE LOVE YOU AFTON!!
***Thanks Roberta for letting us use your camera for a couple of weeks! Without your camera we may not have gotten the wonderful pictures we did!***
What a great birthday day! I love the cake- it looks retro simple.
I see that you don’t need me anymore now that you have another pool…I mean, friend! just kidding. The Jenesses have a tradition to decorate their house in birthday decorations for a month when it is someones birthday. In your house, half the year it would be ready for a party!
