On September 4, 2009 we celebrated our 11 year anniversary. Since we have only celebrated one anniversary alone, we thought we might as well do it again. As we thought about going out and getting a babysitter the price was looking a little high. So we came up with the perfect solution. Jaime and Alix have been practicing babysitting here at home for so long we thought we’d try it out for real. Since Roberta lives right next door and agreed to be on call, it was the perfect trial run. We left the house with clear expectations and had confidence it would all go well.
We started the evening out by going camera shopping. It was a bust. How do you pick a camera when you only buy them once every 5 years? I don’t know what a good price is or what a good camera is. I just want a camera that takes pictures that aren’t blurry. How much money do I have to spend to get that? Anyone have any ideas?
Next we went to dinner at Spin a Yarn restaurant. This restaurant has been a round since the ’50’s. When I was a kid I used to think the little place was a yarn shop. It was not until I was married that it was brought to my attention that it was a restaurant. Too funny. I wonder if my grandparents ever ate there.
What a fun restaurant. For what we got I thought the price was not too bad. We would have spent just as much at the Olive Garden. What a great experience. Scott had to make reservations. When we got there, we were seated by a greeter. He unfolded my napkin for me and tried to set it on my lap. I was not expecting it so I ended up grabbing the napkin from him, oops!! Then our waiter came by and took our drink order. Someone else came to deliver the drinks. The waiter took our order and delivered our food but there were two others. One who constantly checked our drinks and refilled them and another one that cleared the dishes. I’ve NEVER had 3 waiters at one time at a restaurant. The other thing that impressed me was that these waiters impressed us with their service, not their personalities. I feel that waiters try to entertain you instead of serve you and leave the entertaining to ourselves.
I had a GREAT eggplant meal and Scott had a seafood pasta. The food was excellent, the service perfect and the company the best. Scott and I had the atmosphere to talk and laugh and enjoy each other without distractions from other customers or our waiter.
There was a live band playing too. That was fun and we took the opportunity after dinner to listen to their music for a while. All in all a wonderful experience. We’ll have to do it again in another 5 years….. :0)
After dinner we went to the local miniature golf place. That was super fun too. I smashed Scott by a whole 5 points!! But the best part of the whole experience…..I got a whole in one on the 19th whole! Yep folks, I made the sirens and the lights go off and I got my free game of golf the next time I go. It was AWESOME!! Those around cheered for me and it was so fun.
After that we headed home. It was 10pm and we figured our children needed us. How did it go here at home? AMAZING!! We only got one phone call about a movie selection. Jaime and Alix fed the kids and cleaned up the mess. They watched half a movie. Put jammies on the kids, brushed their teeth and got them all to bed. Then they were given permission to watch a movie till we got home. It was a good time by all. But the best part for Jaime and Alix? The $10 they both earned for a job well done. I like having older children. It keeps the money in the family and it gives them good experience for when they can babysit for other families. Jaime even changed a poopy diaper on Keri. You go girl!!
Lucky for us our night did not end. I had gotten us a piece of carrot cake (the store had them for a buck). Since we both LOVE carrot cake and it was what our wedding cake was made out of I thought it would be a fun end to our evening. So after Jaime and Alix went to bed we watched Little Women and ate carrot cake. It was a glorious evening and we hope to someday do it again.
11 GREAT things about Scott (in no particular order)
-An AMAZING dad. His kids are sure he walks on water.
-He gives me at least 5 compliments a day (I’m trying not to let it go to my head)
-He strives to kiss and hug me first when he comes home (with 6 who can run faster than me it’s hard sometimes….)
-A day never goes by without him telling me he loves me
-His work ethic. He rarely complains and always asked if there is anything else he can do.
-His amazing way of teaching the gospel to his kids, friends, co-workers and ward
-His testimony of the gospel but especially of Joseph Smith
-His humor. That guy keeps me laughing.
-His ability to stay level headed when I might not be so….
-His knowledge. This guy is smart. He blows me away at all the things he knows.
-His desire to continually gain knowledge. He is never satisfied with how much he knows. This is true for both secular and spiritual knowledge.
I love you babe. Here’s to 50 more!
What a great evening! Congratulations!
Congrats! Good for you two for celebrating alone. I’m all for that!
